I would REALLY like to see the photo collage Freddie kept by his bed as his illness took over. I believe from previous thread....you Lee had the framed collage made for Freddie!! If it's tooo personal, we could all understand you not wanting to share.

On August 21st, 1980. Joe S. John M and myself met up at about 1:30am at one of our favorite watering holes.
Lee N. was still at his job on Cape Cod, so it was just the three of us. At about 3:00 am we decided to move on
to a nearby after-hours bar called The Anvil. It had a reputation of being a sleazy bar but I like the upstairs which
had enough light to actually see people. As many waiters, bartenders and managers of restaurants and bars that
stayed open late. It was a fun place to unwind after work for these evening/night workers and of course that meant
some really good-looking guys.were often there. The downstairs was very dark where the sleaziness went on
but I and my friends did not like the free-for-all, dark, dark area where you could not see anyone very well. We
stayed upstairs at first together and then we broke away from each other to cruise a bit. I had noticed this guy
earlier who was my type....dark short hair, mustache, thin build and so I decided to approach him. We exchanged
names and this guy introduced himself as Fred. When I asked him what he did for a living he said "I'm a musician"
I said something like "oh great" but asked no other questions. I had no idea who he was and just assumed he was
an English musician named Fred. When we decided to go home together, I invited him to my house, not too far away.
He said he had to go back to his hotel.I asked if he had a car and he said that he would rather go back in my car.
"No problem" I said. He was staying across on the east side of the city and we were in the west side. In my rear view
mirror, I noticed a limousine following ever turn I made which followed us all the way to the Berkshire Place Hotel
a very upscale hotel. I finally had to ask him, "are you a musician or a famous musician. He finally let on that he
was Freddie Mercury from Queen. Of course I knew Queen but I did not know the names of anyone in the group.
We spent the night after some strong drinks and cocaine and actually spent more time chatting than doing the deed.
Freddie invited me to hear his concert in Philadelphia the next evening August 22nd. I politely said no, because I
had to work. I left the hotel but I did know the name of the hotel in Philly and his "hotel name" Alfred Mason. We'll
when I got home and thought about this, my roommate said "Are you crazy...call in sick." So I found somebody to
work for me and decided that since I did not have a phone contact for Freddie, I would just drive to Philadelphia,
go to that hotel and try to contact him knowing his fake name. I managed to get Alfred Mason's room number (unheard
of today in these times). So I went up to his room and knocked. Peter Freestone answered the door obviously waking
up from a nap. Freddie was in bed but invited me in and was actually excited to see me. I later found out from Peter
that he was thrilled to have someone go through so much effort to see him. The concert that night was my first Queen
concert ever and I was given a backstage pass. After the show, we went out to the bars and Freddie was in great form.
We had a lot of fun but maybe had done a little too much coke. The bedroom did not go too successfully on either of
our sides but we still had a fun time. After that day, Peter had given me his address in London which I held on to. I
decided to send a thank you note to Peter for being so kind and attentive. He wrote back and invited me to meet up
again. I asked if I could bring my three best friends along and he said YES! The rest is history.

I have one anecdote with I did an interview with Russel Mullcahy.
I became friends. Especially with Freddie and Roger. The only 2 anecdotes I can share (it was the 80’s!) are, one night in the studio, Freddie taught me a few cords on a piano and I am in one of the songs somewhere…and also one night, I was in Earls Court, London, I think I was a little drunk, and I knocked on Freddie’s door. He put me to bed in a guest room and the next morning I woke and he was making a full English ‘hangover’ breakfast for me. It was a breakfast I will never forget! Bless Freddie Mercury. And Queen forever!

Omg. YES you should do that, Lee! You guys were a bright spot in Freddie's life. You knew him in a way his fans never will. It would be great if you wrote a book! Lee, have you seen This Was The Real Life by David Minns (Freddie's first bf) and David Evans (who also wrote a book with Peter)? If not, please please click this link and download it on you phone or kindle. It's a great read filled with stories of friends and David gave details about his time with Freddie and Freddie's family that nobody else knew. It was very interesting and it's something I think you and Thor could do that would be even more exciting! David and David knew Freddie for years but didn't stay close for as long as you did.

Lol I love your energy! No wonder Freddie enjoyed his time with you guys! I'll tell you like I told Thor, if either of you are in the Houston Texas area, drinks are on me! You two are a hoot, and the Montrose area out here is fantastic. Everything from those sleazy bars Thor was talking about to wine tasting and classy clubs. It's nearly all owned by LGBT people as well. I go nearly every weekend for a few drinks with friends
