NeverToo Late I was under the impression that the health screeninng reason for no further tours was made up and contained in the books written about Freddie/queen that contain a lot of incorrect information?
I don't know if I have seen or read Brian and co say this.
I'm guessing he must have known something may be wrong and Brian has said that Freddie said ' i can't tour anymore, my whole body is wrecked in pain' but Brian said this was something Freddie said after most of their tours so they didn't take much notice.
If that were the case wouldn't they have all had to undergo blood test etc before the magic tour and if so wouldn't it have possibly given a result of either HIV or aids. Gerry was their concernt promoter and maybe harvey goldsmith and back then they didn't have sponsors. Brian has said that was the first tour where they actually made money, probably because they played large outdoor venues.

Katy would you recommend Peter's cookery book , is there any new stories in it that we might not know from his books?

Cheyman Freddie was diagnosed after the Magic tour. I think he looked great during this tour so I never understand people who say he looked ill. He went to Japan afterwards with Jim and offcourse he had his hat party and he looked great at these events too. This is my thoughts from seeing photos and the tour on dvd.

Doughnut I get what you saying he did look really good for a long time he was so physically fit.
D
Thor/lee when your book is publised , will it be worldwide ? I'd be gutted if I can't get a copy :)
K
Doughnut, I'm not sure I'd say that there is a ton of new info in the cookbook, and you will have seen all of the pictures. I enjoyed see the comments and stories about the types of food Freddie enjoyed for each of his meals. He had a different palate from mine as far as preferences and it was fun to compare. I have a large collection of books about Freddie, and this one is a unique addition. Several other people here also have the cookbook so maybe they can weigh in with an opinion. When I bought my copy some or all of the proceeds went to MPT and that was another reason for my purchase.

Hello everybody, this is my first post in this wonderful thread and my English is really horrible so I hope you won't judge me too strictly ??

Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and thoughts. I'm thinking about guilt theory and I agree that it could be very important force in Freddie's relationships. But when we consider that he would let people stay in his life because he felt guilty, what about contracting Jim with HIV? That must be humongous guilt feeling he practically killed him (at that time when there was no proper medication). I know he didn't knew Jim was HIV positive until 1990 but he wasn't stupid he had to suspect this.
I really wish to believe that they had wonderful relationship until the end but there are some clues which make me uneasy, even written by Jim Hutton himself. I'm pretty sure that they were very much in love at the beginning but towards the end I tend to believe that there was this guilt factor which made Freddie to stay with Jim. And also his fear of being alone. He knew there is no chance to find somebody else.
I'm quite sure Jim loved Freddie but I'm not sure it was the same from Freddie towards Jim, I mean after several years staying together. But I also know that even when there is no big love and passion in a long term relationship, you can be happy with your partner and I very much hope, they were happy together.

Oh no Doughnut,.
You mean Lee's photo of the arm wrestle is not the only one? I will have to ask him if someone else snapped a pic at the same time. Thanks for warning me.

Lee, is this possible?
F
Right, I know he couldn't tour anymore AFTER the Magic Tour once he was diagnosed. I was wondering about his hesitation to do the Magic Tour itself. It is possible he may have already not been feeling 100% even if he didn't know why yet.
T
World Wide, Doughnut ?

Why, it will be Galaxy Wide, darling!"

Just a little Freddie inspired humor.
(disclaimer: No, Freddie never said this)
D
well it had better be Galaxy Wide Thor or I shall hop on a plane and come find you ha ha

Yes the arm wrestle is all over the internet, it's a fab photo. I just checked and yes it is in Jim's book with the notes 'sparring partners - Freddie and me during the Magic Tour.
Lee's one might be slightly different, different angle etc. Have a look onthe internet to check. I would add it here but I don't know how to .

Just a FYI :)

I Know earlier in the week there was some discussion of the ticket prices for the We Will Rock You musical. I'm in the Houston area and it is coming here in October. The tickets went on sale this morning and are what I feel pretty reasonable, with the lowest price tickets being about $29.50 up to about $59.50. I think the more outrageous prices may have been through third party ticket brokers. I purchased my ticket directly from Ticketmaster. Of course, I don't the situation in other areas.

Mary and also Brian mentioned, Freddie knew something is not right with him during the Magic tour and what is the reason.

He looked great and healthy but it doesn't mean he didn't feel tired and not fit.

I think it was the interview with BBC where Mary mentioned that at the end of Knebworth show she and Freddie look at each other and they knew, that it's over, there won't be any other show anymore.

Welcome Mica!
And your English is VERY good, better than some native speakers...lol
I have no insight into the Freddie/Jim relationship other than from my observations of the two interacting, To me, there was evidence of deep love. You could easily find this evidence in the way they looked at each other. Additionally it was evident in the way he protected Jim (and I must say, vice versa).
Jim was not an intellectual and he was socially awkward and shy but I believe he had a big, loving heart and would always give Freddie anything and everything he was capable of giving. Unfortunately in this particular case, he gave his life..
D
Mika don't worry your english is fine...welcome :)

I understand where you are coming from regarding Jim and Freddie as I thought that myself at times but then I am not sure if Freddie would have stayed with him just for that reason. I could be wrong obviously as I don't know Freddie. Villiers did say in her live that at the end Freddie wouldn't let go of Jim when he was changing shifts with one of the others guys , until he got a cuddle or kiss from Jim.
case as it's clear how much Jim adored him.
In Jim's book he confirms that Freddie didn't find out until three weeks before he passed away. I guessing he must have thought the chances of Jim having it high. I did read an interview Jim gave where he said Freddie had suggested several times to get a blood test but Jim refused for the reasons in his book.
I'm a romantic so I'm hoping Freddie didnt have any guilt being with Jim.

One thing that I did feel after reading Jim's book is that I wish that Jim had walked away in the early days when Freddie was messing him around. Only because I felt that Jim was a normal guy pulled into a mad life with Freddie. It was the period when Jim would be used to make Winnie jealous that I found sad. Because he was a normal every day guy makes it all the harder when people call him a gold digger etc etc. He didn't ask to be pulled into Freddiee's life as such, Freddie picked him.

I can't blame Jim for falling in love as Freddie has the most gorgeous dark eyes . I never knew he was such a good looking man until recently.
M
Thundergod,

Thank you for your nice words.

Regarding Freddie and Jim... You made me cry ?? there is nothing more to say ??
