I´m not going to defend Peter Hince anymore, but it was quite rude from Brian to call him "disgruntled ex-employee". Peter left on his own request to become a photographer. He stayed in contact with Freddie after that and many of Freddie´s most famous photograps are made by him. Freddie appreciated his loyalty very much and he persuaded him come back as his roadie for the Magic tour in ´86. Maybe Brian didn´t like the book because he practically didn´t appear there, LOL :D
And Roger loved the book!
Btw. Brian became very hostile towards Peter Hince after the interview where P.H. said he doesn´t like Queen+ AL very much.
I´m not judging anybody, just bringing little bit more light into it.

That could be true, who knows. I'm not friends with Brian lol. I am however friends with Chris Taylor and according to him, Ratty burned a few bridges within Queen. I'm not entirely sure what that means or what the details were but Chris is not a fan of Ratty's for whatever reason.
It was all over Freddie's music. And folks like I said some dudes you cant tell they are gay.I seen Freddie for the first time and I said to my self that sweet good looking fella is gay.At the time I didnt know he was.So even Mary said women would follow him home even when they suspected he was gay.

and that is very interesting, thank you very much!
Chris should write a book too :) There are some stories by him somewhere on the internet and I couldn´t stop laughing for ages. He and Roger were apparently born for each other /at least for some time/. And he seemed to be very fond of Freddie too. Nice guy.

Mika no offense intended but unless you know Brian and his reasoning for saying that you really have no right to call it anything. The reason Brian doesn't talk to Ratty and the reason he said what he said was not because Ratty peacefully walked away to do his photography. I see he conveniently left out all his paid interviews and negative comments about Queen and accusations about abuse he received via the band. I knew Ratty for a very short time but in that time I saw a man who drank his weight in booze and had nothing kind to say about the band that he later wrote a book about. And let's be perfectly honest. Without that Queen name in his book nobody would have picked it up. Let's just say you shouldn't take his word for it.
Ratty also spent years trying to sell his Queen items he took from shows and music videos over the years. When people didn't jump to buy some random mics he claimed were Freddie's for a few grand he ended up coming out with a book. Could be a coincidence but I doubt he's making a killing with his photography. A recent auction house held a cardboard cut out Ratty took from the Great Pretender music video. Sold for a few grand. He had offered many of us that cutout for years. To Brian...and anyone else with common sense (admittedly) his book reeked of "I need cash and it's been a few years since anyone offered to pay me for a Quewn related interview".
There you go, there are so many versions of one story, therefore the life is so colourful and nothing is white or black. Thank you for your insight. As I mentioned I don't want to judge anybody.
Oh dear...excuse the typos!
Freddie's Loves that should have been removed It"s a joke.Leslie Ann Jones forgot what lie she told and who she told it too.
Villiers mentioned a book by Rosemary - Freddie's first female relationship - is that book still in print and how much insight does it give on Freddie?
Notre Dame burning is tragic - during Holy Week - just so sad - what a beautiful treasure lost.

I've just finished watching a series on traveling through dimensions and parallel time lines. I know it's not widely accepted.... But what if -
How would things be different if Freddie had been ok, but someone else in the band has become ill. I love them all, but had it been Roger or Brian who left this mortal coil, how do you think Queen would have moved on?
John Deacon will always be my Knight in Shining Armor. He made it clear that there was no Queen without Freddie. I love him for that. Bless you for having a conscience and following your gut. History will show that you were on the right side of decency. I respect and love you, Sir, for your refusal to sell out Freddie's memory. May Karma shine upon you and yours.

Hi! The book by Rosemary is not longer found in paperback but can be found through Amazon kindle. She gave a short article interview a few years ago about it and the poor woman left Freddie knowing he was battling with his sexuality, only to marry another man, have kids and get divorced when he also realized he was gay. Yikes!
Her book was called 'Life Art and Freddie Mercury'. There is very little about Freddie in there. So much so that it's pretty obvious she only included Freddie's name in the title to help promote the book about her time as a art student in the 60s lol. But it does have enough info in it to help piece together some of Freddie's early struggles with his sexuality. She talks about his "obsession and hate toward gay men. Like how Freddie would mock and insult gay men (a very common symptom of a closeted person who is testing the waters with the people around them, checking their tolerance for gays and trying to overcompensate for something), she talks about how she would try to change the subject from gay men (which he claimed he didn't like) to anything else but she said he would force the conversation back to them every chance he got. She describes it's as an obsession he had. It went from "I don't get them. How can one man do that to another right? Gross." to "Tell me more about them. What are they like? Can I meet them? I MUST meet them!" Once Freddie realized she was tolerant of gay men, he opened up and told her he was interested in men. She said she assumed that since she and Freddie had been physical, he wasn't gay. That all changed when he met some of her gay friends and he started crying during the act of love making.
Being gay myself and having spent years holding on to the hope that I was bisexual, that story hit close to home. It all felt painfully familiar.
People often ask why Freddie spent so many years hiding the fact that he was gay from Mary. Keep in mind, Mary herself said he avoided her so much the last few years, she knew anyway but- in Rosemary's book, she says Freddie was an emotional wreck when she left him, not because they were madly in love but because Freddie admitted she was the only person who knew what he really was and if she left, he would feel truly and deeply alone. Not to mention the boys at his college called him "the old queen" due to his mannerisms. When you're trying to break into the music industry and be taken seruosuly as a musician in the late 60s, you do NOT want to be exposed as gay. To avoid that, you need a woman. Mary followed Rosemary by just a few months and I think it's clear Freddie was afraid she would leave too had she known earlier on that he was gay. But rumors stirred anyway even in the early years. Enter the random ring proposal and immediate backpedaling on that engagement from Freddie etc.

Emdee, That book Rosemary Pearson wrote was a good read and a crucial one I think. He was able to share more of his feelings with her than he was Mary Austin. She broke it off with him because she knew the feelings he was having were real. She knew she would have lost him anyway.
I don't think his engagement to Mary Austin was because he really wanted to marry her.Just my opinion .
Black queen, I think if John and Freddie were the ones still with us they would have done things much different.I dont think there would be a biopic made and let's face it Freddie was the best frontman of all time John Deacon had a good buisness sense .They definitely would be making music.
