Thoughts on Thor Arnold and Lee Nolan's eleven year friendship with Freddie

@Katydyd5, I completely agree with you on the book. I don't have anything against Brian per se, I actually have a lot of respect for him and a lot of the things he does (like his musicianship, advocating for animal rights etc), but some things he says/criticizes just confuse me.

I don't know if the Queen organisation is actually trying to stop Thor and Lee's book from being published, but from what we've seen they're not happy about it.

Welcome RussiaLand, and thank you for sharing. We don't often get a look into what's happening in the Russian Queen community, so it's especially nice to hear from you. I've seen some Russian comments on youtube that basically claim what you've described: that Freddie being gay is just a crazy conspiracy theory. Sad how people are willing to lie to themselves due to homophobia, and even more sad that people exploit this for money.That bit about how gay actually means happy in this context gave me a good laugh, though. Thor, I don't think anyone who's read this thread could possibly think that your book will be anything but a celebration of Freddie and the wonderful times you've had together. I don't know whether the official Queen camp disapproves because they're expecting tabloid drivel, or because they simply dislike not being in control of what sort of information gets shared. Or maybe it's because a happy, gay Freddie surrounded by benevolent gay friends isn't the narrative they want to push (I know, I sound like a conspiracy theorist). Either way, they're wrong and can fuck off as far as I'm concerned. Sorry for the language, but this kind of stuff annoys me greatly.

Thor and Lee, I had no doubt that your book would be completely honest and respectful of your dear friend Freddie, and hopefully show Freddie's lovely fun side and generous nature to a wider audience.

I am so looking for to this book. I love to see Freddie having fun. His smile lit his whole body, never mind just his face.

Regarding John's comment regarding Freddie being his best friend, it did make me wonder if John also had Freddie in his mind when he wrote "You're My Best Friend" as well as Veronica. Just a thought.

I am just making one comment on the new book everyone should be able to share their memories with a man they cared and respected so much.All of those books will be here for years to come make your mark.You guys made alot of joyful fun memories share them with the world.

God help me! There's an auction for a Freddie SH Figuart figure (with the interchangeable heads and hands)'on eBay that's ending on Sunday, and I SO want this boy! I'm tempted to pay a silly amount of money for him! Obsession? Me? ...... You betcha!

There's always some fan who will get butthurt over something. Fans often fantasize about a famous musician and performer they never met, and build up an image of who he was, what he liked/didn't like, all of it. Anything that conflicts with their built-up fantasy is often treated like a personal transgression.

Consider how Jim H. got a lot of criticism for his book and "how dare he..." He was a loving and devoted companion to Freddie for 7 years, as well as a terrifically talented gardener who worked hard at Garden Lodge. He was known to be an honorable, truthful man and yet, the haters hate and called him all sorts of names over the years.

And Peter/Phoebe has received his share of criticism, "selling out..."

Ridiculous.

Anyone who hates books written about Freddie *by those who knew him*, if it offends, then it's simple: don't buy the books.

Jacky does still talk to Beach, unfortunately. Both are rather unpleasant people.

Someone mentioned they messaged me but I don't see anything sorry. I'm not close to Jim Beach but I've meet him a number of times and from what I've heard from Brian he is very protective of the band and it's reputation. He has a very short fuse when it comes to new books and documentaries. I hope they understand Thor and Lee's book is nothing but love. Thor Brian will be listening once it goes on YouTube.
