Hello again. I don't remember Jim ever mentioning that song but he did tell me once that Mr Mercury had a nasty habit of not apologizing after an argument. Instead he would try to make Jim crack a smile so he couldn't stay angry. One way he did this was to sit at the piano and play songs Jim recognized until he lightened up a bit. That might be what you're referring to?
We did see hundreds of fans and were told not to speak with them or the press. Joe and Mr Freestone were always polite to the fans but kept their distance. Jim was very talkative with them and seemed to find more emtional support on the outside of the garden lodge walls with them vs with anyone inside. That's not to say Joe and Mr Freestone didn't care but they were grieving themselves and Joe for one hated discussing Mr Mercury. He was so focused on what was happening with Ms Austin and Mr Beach he seemed too angry to grieve for Mr Mercury just then.
Fans left notes and flowers. When they got too piled we picked them up and removed them on request of Mr Beach. Jim insisted on keeping a handful of notes from the fans that told him they travelled from other countries to pay their respects. Good on him.
Thank you for your generosity Mr Thor. I owe you a lager the next time you find yourself in England. And a big bear hug. Lol I understand in America a bear hug could mean something else couldn't it!

Thor - I think I remember reading you entered the "zone" to dispute some untrue facts that were written about John Murphy. Correct me if I am wrong. So really something negative turned into something very positive - reliving those fond memories.
Thor, Lee, and SM - I might add, I am very impressed that you can recall details from 25-30 years ago. ( I can barely remember what happened yesterday sometimes - LOL!!) To me, this just demonstrates what an impact Freddie had on those he knew. Kudos to all of for sharing.
SM - isn' it very late across the pond right now? I rarely get to chat with live with those at this time of the evening.

SM, It has many meanings but I think a hug of any kind shows kindness and mutual respect between two people that maybe are friends that havent been together in a while. The other kinda hug well let's see hug them and let the good times roll .I'm just kidding I am sure Thor wouldnt mind giving you a hug at all .He seems like a nice guy.
Please excuse my typos - it appears I did not do a very good job of proofreading before posted - I hate when that happens!! I have a few extra words - darn!
Galileo, Gaetan Dugas wasnt he a flight attendant.I think they blamed alot on that guy and it's no more his fault than it is anyone else. This is the way I see things they were dealing with this awful virus that was killing people some in hours of getting to hospitals because they didnt know they were sick. They had to blame someone. So they pin it on gay men which I think was a chicken shit thing to do.By the time they dug their heads out of their ass and figured out what they were dealing with they noticed heterosexual people were getting it as well.So my question is why single one man out or one group of people just because you cant figure out what was truly causing AIDS?I dont get it.
FreddieDarling,
i've always felt that Oscar came out on top in the Freddie/Tony break up. Obviously Tony wasn't too devoted to Oscar if he left him with Freddie.

Shaun,
As far as I know, a bear hug means the same thing anywhere. It does not have a sexual meaning.
However in this country, if the bear hug is between two men, it usually is followed by an obligatory pat on the back to keep it separate from the hug of a man and a woman lest anyone think that the two men were gay...God forbid...LOL
Now, the term "bear" itself has a meaning here. It is gay slang usually used to describe an older gay man, not in shape or obese, with a lot of body hair displayed proudly by keeping shirts fully open, etc.
I fight very hard not to be considered a bear though I can do NOTHING about the age...LOL

Do American men still feel strange around gay people? The whole macho man thing still going strong over there? I ask because here nobody bats an eyelid and some of the nicest folks I've known are gay. But all American movies seem to make those "no homo" jokes and leaves me wondering. Perhaps I'm misinterpreting American humour again lol. I did visit a club with my mate Dan back in the 80's and I was flattered by the attention I received but definitely not my cup of tea admittedly lol. Still there was an undeniable fun atmosphere in the place. Wish I could remember the name.
I have a bad habit of flaking out for just a few hours at a time instead of sleeping the full 7 hours. I've tried everything short of drugs to correct it but so far the best method seems to be hot tea and a good book. I check in when I can.

Doughnut- thanks for the post concerning the "Send in the Clowns" piano solo by Freddie on YouTube- it's a very simple recording but quire beautiful- shed a few tears listening to it for some reason- I guess it was that backstory you refered to concerning a possible peace offering for Jim- that really tugged at the heartstrings.
SM......a few of my patients have told me that their medical marijuana has helped big time with their insomnia. Do you have that in GB???
I also only sleep for about 2 hours at a time......i feel exhausted All the time! I have tried melatonin, Tylenol pm, Nyquil, unisom, Chamomile tea....(Not to be taken together) sometimes those aids help, most of the time NOT!! The only thing i haven't tried yet is Valerian root supplements from the health food store. (I do not have a medical marijuana license yet....but maybe one day soon!!) ......Broken sleep sucks! ...hope this helps!

Shaun -
As an American male, I am disappointed to say I might still feel strange around gay people, but I never know if gay people are nearby.
I have only personally met and been casual acquaintances with a few gay people and none currently live nearby.
I do feel uncomfortable discussing this, and fear I might say something stupid.
