FreddieDarling, thanks for locating that portrait of Freddie. Oddly enough I had just yesterday deleted it from my files and couldn't share it here. I hope Thor can tell us a bit more.
I'm not going to engage in a discussion about Barbara Valentin. She was clearly important to Freddie for a long time as a translator and friend. I think she tried to get too close and began to read things into the friendship that weren't there. However, she was at Garden Lodge more than once, and even appears in some of the Garden Lodge tapes. There are also still photos that show her at Garden Lodge. I have to respect all of Freddie's choices in companions whether I like them or not. As for Munich, it wasn't all bad. Freddie had a treasured relationship there with Mack and his family. I believe they helped ground him while he was there.
As for Rudi, I'm very excited about his book. I went through this same discussion several pages back, but I feel I need to express my thoughts again. He had a very long professional relationship with the band and a personal friendship with Freddie. He is in many of the "making of" videos. He, along with his partner, directed The Untold Story, a highly respected documentary about Freddie's life. He featured Freddie in an episode of his television show. He clearly had a love for Freddie that remains to this day and I think he will have many stories to share that will be new to us. I love learning the behind-the-scenes stories. When you see him working with Freddie it is clear that Freddie had great respect for Rudi's craft. He's also going to release a new video with the interviews he did with Freddie. I look forward to having them all in one place. Frankly, I don't care why he decided to write his book now. I'm just so grateful that he is going to give us new stories. It is harder and harder to find new material about Freddie and I'm exceedingly grateful for anything I can get.
Thor and Lee know I am equally excited about their book. I have been here from the beginning and couldn't have been happier to learn that they would finally publish. Same thing as with Rudi, it's new material. I celebrate that in any form.

LOL, quick apology. I said I wasn't going to engage in a discussion about Barbara, and then turned around and did just that. It's out of my system now. Sorry!
Doughnut, Thanks for clarification I didn't know Barbara and Winnie were best friends that explains alot however, she leaves a bad taste in my mouth but I wont make any further comments on that subject.
Katydyd5, Yes cannot wait until we (please God!) ,have the chance to buy Rudi's book and Thor and Lee's book.
Rudi always seems to hold such affection and respect for Freddie, and that Freddie trusted Rudi and Hannes to be so near to him when he was so poorly speaks volumes to me about how those feelings must have been reciprocal.
I wonder what the hold up in the book is? I feel sure he must be going to release it in English. Just think how many territories he'd be missing out on sales in if he doesn't!
Hope you all have a great week and I hope Thor or Lee can help us to solve the Freddie and Oscar (?) Painting Mystery!

Katy you made me giggle .
I do the same sometimes , can't help it. The only thing I'm sat it it's not a given for us to like someone in Freddie's life . If we find he/she did things not in Freddie's best interest
Im.very much looking forwArd to Rudi's book as he Will no doubt have lots of endearing things to say about Freddie and their personal and working relationship.
Regarding Barbara , I feel we don't have to respect because she was close to Freddie . No doubt Freddie wanted her in his life but was she genuine. Remember it's said Freddie could often overlook bad traits in a person . Anyway it's what she did after Freddie passed away that has turned public opinion of her. I'm not sure Freddie would be happy if he knew what she had claimed, not just sex but violence.
I don't hate her , I just think she was hurt by events .
Take care
Doughnut

What a topsy turvy message , apologies it's my stupid kindle.
Doughnot, I know a person can overlook bad traits in another person because we all have them we are human. However, there comes a point when this person in your life has help make things toxic and the parties over and it's not fun anymore. You are living in a house of pain and it's time to go.I dont believe he felt this way about any of the other places and friends he met He at one point wanted to cut her out of his life.He never did or wanted to do that with his Newyork buddies so that to me speaks louder than anything.
I'm going to beat a dead horse just one more time, and then I'm going back to my corner to hide. Here's a great video about Rudi.

nice video thank you Katy
No need to go back into your corner, its good to have a discussion as there are differing opinions. As long as it doesn't get heated or nasty we can share views.
My take on Barbara is she went crazy after Freddie died and made claims that people in his circle have denied. To me that not a good person as Freddie couldn't defend himself .

chevyman Barbara was in Freddie's life even up to Christmas 1990.
It appears he reconciled with her after he left Munich. She was included in Peter's book as being on the coach for the Magic Tour dates in Wembley.
It seems to be sometime in 1991 that he cut her off again along with Peter Straker.
Whatever people think of her she was obviously someone Freddie wanted in his life. That is why I say it is after his death that she said crazy things .

I'd say judging by Rudi's comments in the video, cocaine and Vodka was widely available and they were all on it. Those that Freddie seemed to spend his time with. Thor has said Freddie lived a different lifestyle in Munch , a lifestyle I'd say he enjoyed but perhaps after a while stopped enjoying...who knows.
Phoebe says Barbara was a lot of fun and Freddie and her had a blast together.
Mack says Barbara was a bad influence and wasn't good for Freddie .
People seem to have different opinions so who knows. Something happened to make Freddie leave Munich like he did. Phoebe says Freddie's love of Munich was being replaced by his passion for GL & Jim. I personally think what was happening at that time was some of the reason. Sadly it was too late.
Judging on an interview Barbara gave, she didn't like the Freddie she encountered at GL because it seems their wild partying days were more than likely over. and She bitched about Jim saying he was only good for the cats and the garden .
Seems to me his years at GL were very happy and he was a lot calmer.
goodness what a topic lol
