Stevendabudgie (Ha! Got it right this time!! .....), that was an interesting YouTube on Kubrick. ....honeststly, he was an intense director and I'm still not certain if I am a die-hard fan.....let's say I found Most of his movies 'interesting'.....but too bad he didn't choose to do his version of the WWII drama with Little Joe Mazzello!!!
I actually never recognized him, not thru the trailers, YouTube interviews, and not even during the movie!! I discovered it after the fact....somewhere on YT!!! ....Then it clicked...ohhhh yeeeah....that WAS the little boy from Jurassic Park!!!!!! PROPS TO JOE.....He was PERFECT as Deaky!!!
Side note; My young little family piled into our Isuzu Rodeo and watched JP at the local Drive-in movie theater!!!! Thank goodness the kids still remember this event....as the drive-in was leveled shortly after our viewing.....and became a Home Depot!!!!!! Gosh I miss Drive-ins!!!!!!
Thanks 'Budgie'......

Interview with Peter Freestone. Early in the interview is such an interesting take on Freddies home life and the fact that he didn't talk much about his time previous to Queen. Mr. Freestone spent time in a boarding school in India as well so he understood this. He was saying that Freddie compartmentalized his family life and didn't need to call his mom (family) every day possibly as a result of being separated in childhood. His friends were more like family and that the work and social life were separate entities from family and that he saw his family when his mother contacted him. Just thought I would share this if anyone is interested.

aahhhhh. i finally finished reading this thread. interesting stuff. im excited for your book, Thor and Lee!!! thank you for spending your time to share your experiences with Mr. Mercury. I’ve enjoyed reading them.
Thank you queenslegacy,
Welcome to our friendly blog that celebrates Freddie. Occasionally we get trolls, but our policy now is to
ignore and isolate. They tend to leave if we do that. Great to hear from you.

Exactly how I handle them! I pretty much skipped over the parts with everyone interacting with trolls. Seems pointless to engage with them. Glad to be here though. :-)
Hi Thor, Lee,
I don't know if you are answering questions about Freddie any more, but I'll give it a try.
I am newbie on this forum and actually I came here after watching Bohemian Rhapsody movie. To leave a bad review. I think this movie humiliates Freddie (although he is certainly the one who just wouldn't be humiliated by anything this or that person did or said).
But that's not the point of my question. I've read the previous thread and this one in an attempt to "get to know Freddie". By the way, thanks to everybody who recommended the books on Queen and Freddie. I've read Peter Hince's opus and David Evans/David Minns' book and it really explains a lot. I've watched numerous interviews I've never seen before (my favourite so far is the "Time" interview with Dave Clark).
I have the following questions to Thor and Lee. If they interefere with anybody's privacy, please feel free to skip them.
1) I get it from your recollections that Freddie didn't have any of "stardom" habits. He was quite down to earth and generous and easy in his ways. Still I have the idea that he has this "out of the earth" quality. Sometimes a person is really sincere, kind, loving, but somehow alienated from others. Like he has trouble explaining himself and even when he acts like all others do (going to clubs, having a drink, chatting, taking meals), he stands out. Have you ever had a feeling when talking with Freddie that even with you, close friends, he is not on this Earth completely? Like he participates in conversations, but his mind goes places you do not understand.
2) Second question I guess follows the first one. You wrote before that Freddie was eagerly discussing his love life with you, and giving you a helping hand or cheerung you up when things were tough for you. Freddie seems to be this kind of person who is always getting into trouble himself, but at the same time gives really sound advice on relationship of others. Was it ever an occassion, when you acted on his advice towards your lover/friend/boss without actually understanding why, but trusting Freddie's wisdom, and then it turned out really the way you wished? Without going into details, of course.
Thank you for sharing your precious friendship with us. This makes a difference!

Welcome to our family AO5,
My answers to your questions might be a bit underwhelming, but I will try to answer them.
Question 1: Alienation was not observed in New York when we were the closest. (1981 through1983).
He blended into my group of four close friends very easily. He liked meeting people who did not
recognize him, or even those few that did but treated him with respect and kindness. Few to none hounded
him for autographs or pictures, and of course, the press, the major ordeal that he did not care for in the UK.
New York City was a well-needed respite for him - and he loved it! He became the sort of friend that one
could only wish for to my whole group of 4 friends, who became HIS group of 6 friends - Freddie, Phoebe,
Thor, Lee, Joe, and John. He was never sad and lonely like the movie portrays him to be when we were
around
Question 2: We did discuss relationships but other than the time in the winter of 1982-83 when he noticed
I was a bit down and proceeded to fly my recently met friend from Houston to New York to cheer me up.
That was during the famous New York City blizzard which Freddie turned into a white party at his skyrise
apartment. From so high, New York looked very much like a winter wonderland!
I would give Freddie relationship advice when he showed a great interest in my co-bartender, Ray,
who was pretty muscular and gorgeous and even a bit intimidating to our Freddie who, as you said,
does not intimidate easily. With boyfriends, however, he did get somewhat intimidated. Unknown
to Freddie, I prepped Ray on Freddie's admirations. The outcome was a success, and they went out
on several dates. Freddie liked my style of introducing him to people in the clubs, befriending them
first and then introducing them to him. As he would say, "Fabulous, it worked darling!"

Hi Rainbow, I just realized that I missed your last question. Remember, I was working in pediatrics and it was not until I moved to
San Diego (1984) that I saw my first HIV+ 16 years old hemophiliac patient. Before it was understood that casual contact with these
victims was not at all dangerous, anyone HIV+ was put on strict isolation. What a relief for all when just "universal precautions"
became the standard which is used with any patient. No gowns, no masks, just gloves, and handwashing when handling any
body fluids. Also, they developed safer methods to cap and dispose of needles to avoid needle sticks to the caregiver.

I can't believe what I'm seeing after the movie and I have no idea how you or Peter Frestone can handle it. Thousands [actually thousands] of people on all sites of social media, articles, YouTube videos and comments saying Freddie was into women and was shown as a proud bisexual in the movie. An article I saw yesterday shunned Mary for "leaving him because she didn't understand his bisexuality". You've got to be joking. Everyone who knew him and Freddie Mercury himself said he was gay. They act like closted people didn't exist. How many men marry women and have kids before realizing they are gay and not bisexual? Freddie didn't marry her [because he knew he was gay] never slept with another woman after her, called himself gay, all friends say he was gay, but he's deemed a "bisexual icon who absolutely was not gay"? How do people not understand he said he thought he was bisexual to her and she said he was gay because she knew he couldn't have sex with her anymore. A bisexual can and wants to have sex with women too. Freddie didn't. The movie made him look terribly jealous and hurt by Mary's pregnancy and dying other men when that shit never happened at all. It only served to hide the gay in him. Absolutely disgusting. I actually wanted my money back for my ticket. I should have asked for a refund.
Sorry that should have said "dating other men"
