Thor,
All that traveling sounds grand! I love to travel...but haven't done much outside the continental US. I went to Ireland for the first time this past September. It was my first trip to Europe. Admittedly, I don't have a lot of travel experience, but the Irish folk I met while on vacation were among the friendliest and nicest people I have EVER met...not to mention that Ireland is stunningly beautiful. I hope to return to that lovely island one day.
So how did those 2-3 day trips get arranged...did Freddie unexpectedly call you up and ask you to join him, making it a spontaneous adventure...or did you know in advance you would be seeing him in these various cities throughout the 1982 tour?

Thank you for your response, Thor! I'm very excited for the book. I hope the publishers wouldn't take that long, but I'll be patient :)
Hello again Rainbow,
Except for the '82 American portion of the Queen tour, you guessed it, spontaneous decisions by Freddie to include us. Most trips, of course, were geared toward concerts outside of the normal tour schedule. Montreal, Russian River (1 hour outside of San Francisco) and Chicago were like that...last minute. Houston was a quick decision when Freddie said, "Girls, we need a holiday! That trip was not coordinated with a concert. Dear Phoebe took care of all the reservations and limousines.

Thor,
This is the Freddie that was missing from the movie. Thank you for showing us his happier side.

In Phoebe's book he mentions that Freddie loved sending cards for birthdays. Then in his discussion about the movie he says that Freddie always carried his birthday book with him in his leather shoulder bag. I find that really endearing. Since you are including some of the messages as part of your book Thor, I guess you kept the cards. Every once in a while a card will show up on social media and it makes me wonder how many of them are floating around out there and how many were thrown out at some point. Peter Hince shared a Christmas card from Freddie in a recent televised interview, and I suppose some of those are out there too. I had also read that he enjoyed writing letters or post cards when he was on tour in the early years. My guess is a lot of people out there are kicking themselves now for discarding cards or letters that would have great sentimental value now, or perhaps even monetary value. I can tell you that if I had ever had any written communication from Freddie, it would be framed and hanging on the wall!
Ha, Ha Katydyd,
Both Lee and I have many Birthday and Christmas cards from Freddie. After they are copied for the book, I will take
your advice and frame one of them. Thanks for that idea!

PM'd ya, Thor
Yes, but that PM was eaten by QueenZone...could you please send it again?
Done. Hope it works this time lol
It did indeed.
Just saw your reply and I have to admit, I got misty eyed lol. I replied. Hope it got to you. Much much love.
This was given to me by a QZ friend. It is a bit controversial but I think it is a good article for
all gay people. Some may not agree with the content, but I think it is very close to some of
my own reviews of Bohemian Rhapsody.. By the way, it also gives added weight to the absolute
need for our book, to set the record straight (no pun intended).

It's like they read our minds with that article. Glad to see the few people on this thread aren't the only ones to have done some research. Although, the Diana in the gay club thing isn't true. The rest is pretty close to what we have been saying here. Interesting!
Interesting article, thanks for sharing!
I agree with this line in particular: "Bohemian Rhapsody is a movie that consciously tries to position a gay man at its center while strategically disengaging with the “gay” part as much as it can, flitting briefly over his emotional and sexual experiences and fixating on his platonic relationship with an ex-girlfriend instead. It strips Mercury of a part of his identity that was as vital to his success "
