Let’s make our own rarity compilations! Three collaborative ideas

Hello there! I’ve had some ideas for a while to create something kind of new, and I think it might be a good time to start working on them. I’m planning to create three compilations of Queen-related rarities, and it’d be great if a few Queenzoners could provide both their input and recordings to them in order to make a much nicer product and become our own collective contribution, different to those made by some hard-working fans on their own. 1 - The Covers collection This is the easy one. I’ve had this idea for the last couple years but I never got around to making it myself. I realized that there might be enough to make nearly a whole CD worth of covers by Roger Taylor since he’s released quite a few over the years. Then I thought that Brian has his fair share of covers too, and then there’s things like The Great Pretender and even some live tracks by Queen from other artists. - A two/three-disc compilation, featuring all available non-Queen songs performed by Queen members. - Some fun bonus tracks could be Queen covers by other artists. 2 - The QueenZone collection (curated rarities by our community) The hard one. I’d love for this one to be our very own bootleg for the community, and I think there’s a very good chance we can create a nice compilation. My vision for this is to achieve a good balance of high quality (musically speaking) material among the least known recordings, so that average or even experienced fans will be pleasantly surprised by what’s out there besides the main 15 albums. - No more than 3 discs worth of tracks (maybe an additional one for solo material). This will prevent us from including every B-side and whatnot. By no means this will be an exercise in completionism, hence the hard limit. - I’d prefer not to include anything that has been released officially, but perhaps exceptions can be made (some releases are no longer in print). Up to discussion anyway. - This will require informal discussion and voting as to what is the "best" music out there. The goal is to create something that compiles the most interesting material for fans to enjoy for years to come. 3 - The Unusual Collection More details on this one soon! I plan to do this mostly myself, but it would be great if I could get some help getting better sources than the ones I have – on top of cool suggestions for the track list. No promises on actual rarities for the seasoned collectors, but I think this will be fun regardless. While it will be aimed at the most avid fans, just don’t get your hopes up! I’m aware that there could be some material in these compilations that might make Queen Productions raise an eyebrow, so I’d love to have as much help as possible. Bear in mind this is not a money-making scheme, but a means to provide something worth our while, and to make a stand as Queen fans for the kind of product we’d want to be officially released. As for how long this can take, I’m sure we can create something fairly soon provided that we have a few collectors and fans on board to help with ideas and sources. The sooner we get on board, the better! Please let me know what you think!

Sounds interesting. I don't have the resources, but Queen's LIVE covers have almost always been bad. Excluding Jailhouse Rock, Hello Mary Lou *and Big Spender

On the other hand. Would Brian's appearances on old songs with Motorhead and Jerry Lee Lewis count?

Their cover on immigrant songs sounds like their live 1986 version of 7 seas of Rhye. Similar drum beat and bass

The show that this was played at (LA 12-22-77) was released a few months ago on Dimeadozen.org.

Wait, is this freely available? Specifically, White Christmas?

EDIT: Holy shit, now I found it. I had no idea this had surfaced so recently, I'm way out of the loop. Cool stuff!

I've made a 28 volume set 2 years ago filled with 12 inches, b-sides, reels, outtakes, solo related, single mixes, demo and special live stuff. Every now and then the tracklisting changes but i'm pretty pleased with it. All it took was a year and some good trust.

Haha, wow. You can probably contribute a lot to any of the three projects. I'm dealing with about 80 GB of studio recordings in various formats and it's going to take a while to extract what I'm looking for, and hopefully upgrade and add a number of things.
