Jo Dare and Freddie, Hold On

It's an ok song, which I quite liked.

Freddie seemed to be at his best when he had people around him who could push him and get the best out of him. It's why Queen were so good, they got the best out of each other and therefore the band.

happystar's list actually proves the point, they are all good songs but not really Freddie working solo, or writing solo. The Barcelona album is brilliant because he was working, and for part of it co writing with people of equal talent to his. Mr Bad Guy was written by him, the songs are good but the musical performances and production is almost dull in places because he had nothing to prove and no one to better him in the studio.

Of course.....That's like taking something away from Elton because he had someone write his lryics...Isn't that co writing with another talent? Of course he was better when recording with other talents instead of the crap musicans he picked for his solo album. We all know they were best together, but my only point is that I think his work outside of Queen was good. Not all crap like some say. Only some of it was crap like Let's Turn It On.....??

But with Freddie wasn't just talking about song writing, it's how the songs were presented and the point at which solo Freddie (Mr Bad Guy album) judged the material to be as good as it could be compared to Barcelona which was very much a joint effort and so made him strive for more.

Let's Turn It On . . . Yeah, but even that might have sounded better with Brian's guitar, a cohesive rhythm section and a more adventurous production.

In style, Mr Bad Guy (the song) wouldn't be out of place on The Miracle. It's really good, but let down like the rest of the album by very dated synths. Living on my Own is also very good, with Fred's trademark (1980s) scat singing and some excellent jazz-style piano. Not too keen on the lyric "I don't have no time for no monkey business", which I presume means Fred did have time for monkey business.

Mr Bad Guy seems to have been made to be kitch in the 21st Century. You can't buy that kind of value.

VH: You mentioned "Lets turn it on" and you stated that track would have sounded better with some guitar work from Brian, but Freddie stated he was trying to get away from the Queen sound and that is why he hired session musicians to play all instruments.

I think he tried his own thing on that album but failed...like Holly said, There are some songs I like on it like living On My Own, the title Track, love Me Like there's no Tomorrow. Other songs were great like Made In Heaven but felt rushed and sounded like a demo. The Queen version is beautiful. Barcelona I have no complaints... I Just wish it had a real orchestra With Freddie's vision, not the remake they did a few years ago that I didn't love.

I dont get the Made In Heaven thing? It wasn't rushed and a lot of thought went into it, perhaps more than any other Queen album. It is different but does not deserve the vitriol.

Moog, I'm talking about Made In Heaven Freddie solo...on Mr. Bad Guy. I like Made In Heaven the album. It's in my top ten Queen albums.
