“Brian, you're trying to make me fucking sound like Paul Rodgers, and I can't do it!”'

Doesn't sound like Freddie thought he was the best person for the Queen sound to be honest......
Ironically this is a Brian quote pre team up, It sort of got exaggerated the longer Queen + Paul Rodgers continued until Paul Became Freddies favorite singer......

"Incidentally, this single release was the source of Rog and Brian falling out for a bit so if the Fred bit is true you might think Rog would know about it from other insiders, or that Brian would've told him. "

Any more information about this?[/QUOTE]

There's a Roger interview from 1993 where he speaks not too flatteringly about Brian specifically because of this.

So the fact that Brian wasn't involved in the initial MIH sessions with John and Roger really is telling - he and Roger may not have been on speaking terms. But clearly they smoothed things out by 1994, and then they began working on the album together.

Anyone got a link to that interview !?

John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.

Sounds plausible to me.

They`ve also contradict each other in the media about to go on with Queen (and G.Michael) in that period.

That was fascinating to hear, not listened to it before, he really wasn't a fan of Brian releasing he sosl work at that time, and I guess Brian could have pulled it at the last moment, but I bet a million pounds Jim Beach pushed for it to go ahead at just that point...

I find this a really interesting interview in respect of the shift in alliances within the remnants of Queen. With this interview being recorded in 1993, and Roger Clearly referencing a strong interest in continuing as Queen from both himself and John (surprise?); Rog and Deacy appearing as Queen in Cowdray Park in September and the preliminary sessions for what would be made in heaven launched by Rog and Deacy, which Brian basically rejected. Is this perhaps another reason for John calling it quits??

John seemed happy to do the odd thing when Queen was just the three of them. He seemed happy to make the odd appearance with their friend, Elton. He just wasn't interested in replacing Freddie and the embarrassing debacle with 5ive etc.

Good on him. Always intelligent and astute was John, and he kept his dignity intact.

I admire John as a musician and businessman but I don't know him personally so I can't tell if his choice to retire was 'ethical' or simply 'practical'. For all we know, it could've been less 'I don't want to tamper with our sacred legacy' and more 'I can get royalties without moving a muscle, Maylor can do all the work and keep the cheques coming!'

I find this period of Queen from 92 - 2000 to be fascinating. The shifting allegiances within the band, the fact that John did seem open to doing the odd project under the Queen banner. Brian even said in a letter to the fan club at this time (1997) saying that they almost decided on a Queen tour, and Jacky visited them in Roger’s studio and the three of them were playing songs like “innuendo” etc.

It would be great to see a proper focus on this period in a documentary. They all clearly fell out at one point.

Call me jaded, but I don't think we will ever get the full story. John is extremely unlikely to give his story and Brian and Roger...I'm also unsure if they will be so open about it.

Even if they do open up, we'll never know if that's what actually happened, or what they think happened (Rashomon effect), or what they want us to think happened (showbiz propaganda).

Dignity intact...except when he was plastered all over the national papers with his face buried in a stripper of course!
