Not to derail the thread (*thanks I'll check out Kylie Minogue's ass a bit later)
*but as TMLWKY stemmed from the miracle sessions. ..I'd gone back to listening to BACK TO THE LIGHT today at work. ....and good God almighty is it refreshing! Noticed the many nuances i missed as a kid not understanding all the elements and distinct emotions from that period in his life. I've got a strong appreciation for it again. Stronger than before.

Did the same with ANATO which almost always gets the backburner with us uber fans and it IS and likely always will be the greatest window into the band.
*(i still skipped Sweet Lady. ...sorry guys)

To further UN DERAIL my last statement. I missed the QUEEN EXTRAVAGANZA again (*now billed as ROGER TAYLOR'S QUEEN EXTRAVAGANZA in some listings) and apparently they did FOR THE FIRST TIME a medley of INVISIBLE MAN/DRUM SOLO/BREAKTHRU this last Friday in los Angeles.

Anybody go to that show? I'm curious about it and will check online for YouTube when i get back to the house

Oh for fucks sake, i can't simply drop a url in here. (On mobile)

well, it's not the Wiltern gig but it's the the Texas gig from Tuesday 9/11/18 (*I'm not changing this order for those in the U.K.)

Should be starting at song 17 according to setlist.fm

Begins at 1:03:00- 1:07:10

...invisible man is really a tease and the solo stinks and breakthru is somewhat abridged.

WARNING!!! it sounds as if their current singer cut his teeth on "QUEEN" and not the original rock band. He sounds like he's inflecting Lambert a bit.

I'm kinda glad i didn't go now. Ticket prices were a bit steep for a tribute act and hell...let's just admit these ppl don't have any chemistry

I was very much looking forward to seeing The Queen Extravaganza with Marc Martel but I really don't like what I've seen from the new guy. I've seen Queen with Rodgers and Lambert and I've seen a few Queen Tribute Bands, so it's not like I'm a purist... but, like someone else said, tickets are not cheap and I am not paying for a nanny to see something that I am not super convinced about.

In the next month or so both QEX and Marc's Queen Tribute are playing close to me. To see Marc it's like a 1 hour drive and the QEX gig is no more than 10 min away from my office.

Still, I think I'm going to skip them both.

On the flipside, I did fly to Vegas with the wife to see Q+AL. Even at concert #14 overall, it was totally worth it, if only for hearing them play WWRY (Fast) for the first time - my first time, not theirs.

In my opinion the drums on Innuendo are some of the best sounding they recorded. Show Must Go On’s drums are so big and powerful.[/QUOTE]

It may surprise you that its partly acoustic drums and partly triggered ! In that song, every kick and snare is augmented with a fake kick and snare.

I feel like the grinch.

I don't like that Extravaganza line-up at all.

Me neither, I feel the minorities are underrepresented.

I don't like the setlist at all either. They went from being a band about playing the deep cuts to a band playing their top 30 songs (*plus new tease during brief drum solo).
Looks like a karaoke set from brand new MI (*musicians institute) grads.
none of those guys look like they're doing anything more than a dress rehearsal

Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy
Now I'm Here

Invisible Man

Just like the actual Queen - there are always a few of the lesser known tracks in the mix, but not too many. And these ones are pretty decent.

QE started with a bunch of obscure songs, but most people didn't know them. I loved hearing Black Queen and You Take My Breath Away when I saw them a few years back. 99% in the room disagreed with me.

Q + Lambert dropped It's Late and Spread Your Wings because they didn't want to see a sea of blank faces.

Queen aren't Zeppelin or Floyd. They're known for their hits, not their albums. They have been a hits band for nearly 40 years. It's just the way it is.

Looking at the Division Bell tour Pink Floyd drew heavily on 2/3 albums for their set.

Not hit singles as such but huge chunks of their main albums in the mid 70s. It’s still their best known songs, so on that level I don’t see much of a difference.

Pink Floyd is about three albums and a handful of other songs.

Zeppelin could have been a singles band too if they'd bothered releasing any.

" They went from being a band about playing the deep cuts to a band playing their top 30 songs"

Eh, I could live with that if the band didn't sound comatose.

Uninspiring stuff indeed. The new singer isn't as good as Martel and doesn't sound anything like Fred. He doesn't have to be a clone but he should at least try to emulate Fred's phrasing. I don't follow regular Queen online channels -- are Roger and Brian still showing the same support for the Extravaganza? Roger in particular has a tendency to abandon things quickly and move on to the next thing. He was very keen on this a few years ago but now ... ?

For those of us who know about these things you really can't play the 'hit songs' game with LZ or PF. 90% of those people who went to see them, say, on the Division Bell tour or whatever the F LZ were doing were not fans, just people who saw these bands were playing and thought 'oh I'll go and see them' in the same way someone would go and see Wicked or The Mouse Trap. It doesn't matter what PF play live, it matters that you are seeing PF live.
