Queen
Glasgow, Scotland
Apollo Theatre
December 1, 1979
This is an upgrade of the Glasgow audience tape from an old tape collection that was recently acquired. It's certainly a couple generations closer to the master, as the sound quality is better. It is also the most complete version available now, even with ten extra seconds of tape before the cut in Don't Stop Me Now.
The little volume fluctuations on the previous copy remain, and most of the recording was panned off a bit to one channel after the tape flip in Don't Stop Me Now (most noticeably for about a minute of Spread Your Wings). The right channel was also slightly overblown, and since the recording is mono anyway, it was a pretty easy decision to duplicate the left channel over the right with no quality loss at all.
Another 25 minutes of tape in the middle of the show were likely recorded, but have never circulated. This, and the different watermarks on all three copies, all but confirm that it is all by design by the taper (one of the Royal Family superfans) or someone close to them down the line.
Other than Roger butchering the first verse of I'm In Love With My Car (with Mercury coming to the rescue from the piano), this is a great performance, with Mercury in excellent voice.
Thanks to Gregsynth for the tape, and to the taper for letting this out, whenever that was. This copy is still far from great, but it is certainly audible and much more enjoyable now.
1) We Will Rock You (fast)
2) Let Me Entertain You
3) Somebody To Love
4) Mustapha
5) Death On Two Legs
6) Killer Queen
7) I'm In Love With My Car
8) Get Down Make Love
9) You're My Best Friend
10) Save Me
11) Now I'm Here
12) Don't Stop Me Now [cut]
13) Spread Your Wings
14) Crazy Little Thing Called Love
15) Bohemian Rhapsody
16) Tie Your Mother Down
17) Sheer Heart Attack
18) We Will Rock You
19) We Are The Champions
20) God Save The Queen [cut]
Mercury hits the high C on "die" in BoRhap, but not in the choruses of Champions (that's the audience).
That seemed pretty clear on the inferior copy too, at least to me.

I still can't hear Freddie on that part, so I think his C5 blends into the crowd, which is why I'm still not able to really hear him. If he didn't go for it, I feel like his vocal would stand out more, which Is why I believe that he hit the C5, making this the best version of Bohemian Rhapsody of all time.

Thanks hugely for this, my first Queen concert (actually my first concert of any description, for that matter - the bar was set high straight from the off!)
A callow 15 year old who spent the whole day at school expecting the concert to be cancelled as I just couldn't believe I'd be in the same hall as the band, Freddie especially.
Sang myself hoarse after 4 songs and whisper/mimed the rest of the concert. Happy days.
Swore to myself at the time I wasn't going to wash the clothes I had been wearing ever again as they had seen Queen live. Dear me.....
My mother thought otherwise. :-)

It sounds like he's going die-iiiieeeee(ab4 to eb4). The vocals don't have as much power on the c5 leading me to believe it's the audience hitting it. It’s sort of like what he did at the WATC show during the verses
