Do you know who was David Costa. He designed the artwork for ANATO and ADATR., and reading in discogs, a lot of more records from Elton John to George Harrison.
I try to contact, but is like was nothing about him on internet.

For example, The works artwork, the designer has a web, and I contacted him and did an interview about that....but Costa did the most iconic Queen cover and nothing on the web

'Nothing about him on internet' you say. You even mention discogs.

Lol this is what he says about his work for Queen:

“QUEEN: two early album sleeves best not remembered but selling in prodigious quantities.”

Can't blame him. Queen never had interesting album covers. ANATO and ADATR are no exception.

In my opinion their debut LP and Innuendo had the best artwork. The works is not bad either. The rest is rubbish.

Honestly, yeah. I did interviews with Mick Rock and Billy Smith (The Works)
I have the mail from Richard Gray, but he doesn't offer interviews...

Not sure why you rate The Works. A bog standard b/w pic with an unadventurous font? I find it depressing.

The Miracle was original for 1989. The company I worked for did the original colour photo copies (a new thing in '89) for Richard Gray. The initial pics that were used to produce the final joined head were dreadful. Freddie's in particular was unshaven and he had quite a few spots. He was also filling out a bit around the chops. But every time Richard came back with various assembled images the faces became smoother and a picture of health!
No Freddie, No John.....No Queen

Erm, Queen II anybody? The most iconic picture of all? I always liked the Miracle cover, partly for its weirdness and partly because it actually portrayed a message about the album.

Queen II, Sheer Heart Attack, News of the World and Live Killers are my favorites. ANATO and ADATR are nice. Of course, they are all much better in LP format.

I've always considered Queen as a band who had great sleeves. Seriously, check out other contemporary sleeves from other bands and you'll see the quality of Queen ones!

I like The Works one for it's own reason - it was totally different to their previous sleeves. Maybe if anything, linking in to the GH! cover as a classic portrait of the band with a hint of 1920s Sci Fi (linking it to Metropolis). Hot Space reeks of coolness. AKOM is probably my least favourite - but that said, as a kid it made total sense in 1986. The Miracle freaks me out. Especially the back cover. I'm not usually squeamish but all those eyes!!

Q1 is great, but spoilt by them revealing the original shot it's adapted from. Ruins the mystery.

Maybe Mr Costa didn't like working on ANATO because he didn't actually have a free hand as Freddie designed the crest.

Billy Smith, who did the artwork for The Works, with the photo by the legendary photographer George Hurrell told me Freddie was the leader of the band in the art aspects.
They talked a lot about doing it like seems a machine against humans artwork, something between Metropolis and Blade Runner.
I think the photo is great. He told me also they used his words for Queen's name to One Vision and The Complete works without saying anything to him.
Sorry for my written english.
