Either Queen II or The Miracle are the most iconic album covers IMO. I like News Of The World too, it shocked me when I saw it as a kid at a record store and I was surprised when I found out it was Queen's, many years later!

Other than that, I agree that their album art has never been too great. Yet, Hot Space is very cool and probably more interesting than the album itself, funny enough.

And what about singles covers and solo releases? Fun In Space is nice. The inner / back cover art is great too.

Not sure why you rate The Works. A bog standard b/w pic with an unadventurous font? I find it depressing.

The Miracle was original for 1989. The company I worked for did the original colour photo copies (a new thing in '89) for Richard Gray. The initial pics that were used to produce the final joined head were dreadful. Freddie's in particular was unshaven and he had quite a few spots. He was also filling out a bit around the chops. But every time Richard came back with various assembled images the faces became smoother and a picture of health![/QUOTE]

Wow! I don't suppose you have any pictures from back then...

AKOM artwork for me. Was always my favourite t-shirt, that.

My first Queen t-shirt! Very expensive and lasted about 2 washes.

My pal had a cheap knock off and still has it :(

Change "words" to "work" and all of a sudden it makes sense.

I'm surprised that anyone dislikes Queen album cover art from the 1970s. With the exception of ANATO and ADATR, each one is very different from the one preceding it, and each one stands out. In the 1980s the quality dipped a bit. The Works was a bit dull and AKOM was in the style of the day, but looks horrible now. The Miracle was at least ambitious and striking, but it turned out really ugly. I appreciate what they were trying to do with Innuendo: Fred's illness meant profile pics were problematic. I don't particularly like the artwork though.

I personally love the artwork from
AKOM, Innuendo and the Miracle which i think is amazing, I hate the boring miserable grey shots absolute crap and lazy imo. Hot Space is so Andy Warhol maybe influenced by meeting him possibly.

Which boring miserable grey shots?

I really like ANATO and ADATR album covers. Nice matching pair, those two.

Queen II is iconic.

Queen (debut) is a lovely album cover.

Sheer Heart Attack is pretty good too.

News of The World is fairly iconic.

Jazz is not one one my favourite album covers, nor is The Game, although I like that it's reflective.

Flash is ... well, Flash. What else can you expect?

Greatest Hits is pretty much perfect for a greatest hits album cover.

Hot Space actually has a cool album cover.

I've always liked The Works cover.

As someone else mentioned here, A Kind of Magic made more sense in '86, but these days it's not good.

And I kinda feel the same way about The Miracle. At the time it was so usual, but now? I think it's kinda dated.

Innuendo has a wonderful album cover.

Greatest Hits II is fine.

Made in Heaven is.... it's okay, I suppose. Not one of my favourites. It's quite sentimental I guess, much like the album itself. In that sense it suits it.

I agreed with that - however, I'll defend Jazz. It's pretty cool in the same way Hot Space is. It's a design. Maybe they wanted it to look like a 60s stereophonic duo sound hifi testing album? Does anyone actually have any info on it?

Well, David Costa doesn't ask the interview request...it was pretty obvious reading what he did about Queen in his website.

or change it to "font" and it's actually correct...although I didn't realise Billy Smith owned the copyright on Stone Temple font.
