But in 2005 I was being told by a gentleman working for EMI and dealing with Queen-business at that time, that John was indeed suffering from some mental health problem. This gentleman's exact words were: “John has become a little gaga“. I have no reason to assume that this man had made that up.

One can wonder about the inner workings of Queen on the road from the mid-70's onwards. I find it hard to believe that the four characters had much in common off-stage, apart from Taylor and May, maybe. Imagine May or Deacon joining Mercury during one of his many nights out in gay New York. Likewise, mercury would probably have been bored to death if he would have joined the other three in their endeavors for having a jolly time. Ignorance of each other might have played a role on the inner workings of Queen. A lot of people in the world of art must have been aware of the new disease in the very early 80's that was at that time primarily affecting the gay scene. Certainly people who worked or lived with or around gay men at that time, must have been aware of GRID (gay related immuno deficiency as it was known before it was being named AIDS). I have never heard from Freestone, May or Taylor that they had a discussion with Mercury about AIDS around 1982 or 1983. And I wonder why... On the other hand, Mercury had been pretty ignorant towards himself. Within all of that, how must the seemingly shy Deacon have felt? Salvaged? Probably not.
