This is an interview featuring Freddie who got told by the interviewer (after the Detroit show on the A Day At The Races American Tour) that the only song he wish he heard in their show was Long Away.
But he says that it isn't quite right to be in the show yet but seems confident that it will. There are no recordings of the song live which probably means that it wasn't performed live. (Sleeping On The Sidewalk was only played no more than three times as the band didn't seem it quite right for the show. Probably for the same reasons as Long Away but a live recording of that song does exist).
I would love to hear a recording of Long Away live (if it exists) because I have so many questions on how would it be performed whether it will be Freddie or Brian vocal, whether Brian will use acoustic or electric guitar or whether Freddie might play piano to replace a guitar on the record so it sounds more similar to the record with the riffs.
Freddie says that they performed it quite a lot in rehearsals and that they are going to try performing it again so it seems quite likely that a soundcheck recording exists in the group's archives.
What do we think?

I believe it was rehearsed at the time but never played.

When they were rehearsing in New Haven they ran through it a number of times and were unhappy with it. A friend of mine recorded it and I heard the tape about 40 years ago.

It would be great to get a hold of a Queen live version of it. This is the only live version feat Brian I can remember of:

Would love to see them play it.
It's a true hidden gem from their vast catalogue. A great B stage song, if only they would do it.

Brian played a part of Long Away during a Q+PR in Italy in 2005. Milano, I think.
Other than that, his and Roger's performance with Taylor Hawkins' band that someone else already linked to above.

Brian played it quite a few times solo on the 2005 tour.

Well, they played White Queen, Ogre Battle, White Christmas, Sleeping On The Sidewalk, Doing All Right and See What a Fool I've Been around that time so it seems quite likely, but still, amazing news and let's hope someday the tape will be leaked :)

I knew Brian did this song a few times, but I had no idea there is a video of it!
