The movie and Paul Prenter

So I thought I would open up a conversation at the damage this movie is doing. We all know Paul did some really f-ed up things, and I'm not here to defend him, but the movie painting him as this constant villain is silly.

I was on Youtube and came across a video montage of photos of Freddie and Paul. Some weren't even Paul, but his other mustached friends. I believe Lee was one of them!

Anyway, most of the comments were things like "If it wasn't for Paul, Freddie would be alive!" and "Paul turned Freddie gay and corrupted him!"

I'm pretty disgusted that people are taking the movie as fact and not bothering to do any actual research, which in this day and age isn't hard.

Anyone else feel this way?

So you agree with the people blaming Paul for Freddie contracting HIV? because that's utter nonsense.

Same old story as in all Tinseltown-movies: good vs bad. It's boring, it's bland and it is exaggerated. Prenter was not responsible of FM contracting HIV and he was not responsible for FM's death. It is very very sensible to even come close to telling anone it is his/her fault that he/she has contracted HIV. The gay world was quite flippant at the time HIV became a problem, because no one could foresee what lay ahead. Thus, im fact, no one is to blame. If no one planted HIV into the gay world, that is, of course.

The band hated Paul Prenter and Brian has said often enough Paul introduced Freddie to the seedier side of life so yeah technically he did seal Freddie's fate.
Paul also went on to stab Freddie in the back by going to the tabloids after he was sacked.
He was an evil vindictive sort of character.

Freddie would have found the clubs regardless if Paul was around. Paul was no doubt a back stabbing piece of trash, but Freddie wasn't a saint and Paul didn't lead him to anything.

Freddie wasn't a saint and Paul did lead him to everything.

From what people who were actually there have said, seems like Freddie went to the clubs all on his own. The movie made it seem like Paul held him by the hand, forcing him in

Paul Prenter was a cunt. He was a Terrible man with a vile streak in him.
This place used to be great, but now it is an absolute joke. For serious Queen discussion, please visit http://www.queenforum.net

If you'd been aware of having been gay, but never had been able to fully explore your sexuality and then suddenly have a chance to do so, what would you do? Hang out with May and discuss physics? Mercury was probably happy to having had Prenter at his side, as an ally. But that doesn't mean that Prenter was responsible for all the evil that made everyone in Queen a multi-millionaire.

No one is debating whether Paul was awful or not. I'm just bringing attention to the fact that the movie is making some dimwits think Paul is responsible for Freddie getting sick and some even blame him for "turning Freddie gay"

What are you talking about, Hooligan? Read your first post in this, your very own thread again, please. Didn't you quote on Prenter having been awful?

I came across this interview a couple of weeks ago. with Pheobe and found what he said about Prenter's film character and the whole 'Hollywood formula' thing interesting:

(around the 16:33 min mark)

Though he's still awful enough of course for selling private details to the press. I wonder who those 1-2 other people were that Phoebe was referring to (?)

Hopefully there are only a few idiots believe that "Paul turned Freddie gay". However the film "needed" to subtly pander to homophobia and make Freddie's sexual life style "not his fault" to make Freddie a more sympathetic character to the mainstream (who bought lots of movie tickets).

That college magazine interview shared on here recently with him was most enlightening and certainly made me think he wasn't the bad guy.
