I'm happy for him because he obviously put a lot of work into the role, and I'm happy to see Freddie becoming popular again with a new generation, BUT...what was that voice?

I think the problem is many on this site wanted the film to be a complete disaster and just can not accept it has been the biggest film of the year.I only went once to the cinema to watch it,but have ordered the blu ray to watch and enjoy.Anyway that's the film done,we wait for the next Queen project to be ripped to pieces on this site.

Philip, I think people have a problem with the factual inaccuracies that new fans are believing because of the movie

Agreed; that's a big part of why I didn't like it - that and I didn't like the way Freddie and John were portrayed, but that's my own opinion. It's odd to me how upset some fans of the film get when anything but praise and adoration aren't heaped upon Rami and the movie itself. Some liked it, some didn't, but either way I don't see how that makes anyone more or less of a fan. I agree with those who point out how it's great that Freddie and Queen's music are gaining popularity again with a new audience - it just wasn't for me. I find their real life story infinitely more interesting.

I mentioned in another thread and please forgive the perhaps offensive statement, but he almost made his Freddie sound kind of..."slow" with that voice/speaking? Idk it was odd. Obviously he didn't mean to play it that way.

Yeah, Rami's voice is nothing like Freddie's was. I wonder whether it was a conscious decision to speak slower for a film audience? I also wonder whether the speaking style was a conscious choice by Rami (or whoever) to create a speaking voice of his own, but which reflected Freddie's heritage rather than trying to recreate Freddie's actual voice? Because Rami's voice is not like Freddie's.
For me, one thing that would have been good would be if the film and Rami could have captured more of Freddie's wit and joy of life & it seems very much a shame that it/he doesn't
I find it hard to believe Queen fans are worried too much about new fans believing wrong facts about the band. If someone isn't going to get into the band properly, they'd have likely believed in wrong facts anyway. If they will get into the band, they'll soon find out the truth whether they knew it originally or not. Admittedly wrong facts are annoying to watch though - especially putting songs out of sequence for example because there's not even any reason to do that. And something like breaking up the band seems to serve more to show the living members of Queen in a better light than serving the story, but hey.
I just think the film has been very successful, has got lots of people into the band and it's won awards. And It's surely been great for Brian and Roger. For me, my first feeling when watching was relief - I was worried I'd detest it and I didn't at all - I found it joyous and poignantly respectful towards Freddie. It's fine if you didn't like it or didn't find it either of those things, but I don't understand why some people feel upset about enough that all they can do is continuously post mean little comments about it. *shrug*

Not to get fussy over wording, as I referred to fans of the film, not necessarily Queen fans, but I realize I didn't include the context in which I've been seeing this (my fault) - it's more to do with YouTube, not the comments on this site. Under any number of vids over there, if a film reviewer/critic/general commenter didn't like the movie, they were thumbed-down, insulted, unsubbed, etc. In vids that try to mention any inaccuracies, you tend to see replies like "Well the rest of Queen approved the film, and they were there, so who are you to say it's not accurate?" or on some other vids, the uploaders are accused of just having wanted some SBC, R rated raunch-fest - as if those reviewers didn't have other reasons for their critique. The reactions from a lot of those who disagreed with any negative reviews seemed a bit extreme. And to be fair, there were also reviewers that never made it past Bryan Singer being the director or who were upset it was a band movie as opposed to it solely focusing on Freddie, as well as those that did want it to be all about the debauchery they associated with Freddie and/or his death. I totally agree that critical discussions are preferable as opposed to the knee-jerk reactions commonly seen on YT when you have a different opinion, and I hope that my comments aren't taken as being mean - in the end, I'm happy that Queen's music is getting such a huge amount of exposure due to the movie.

I guess we are talking about two different things then, since I suppose I was referring to fans of the film and Queen whereas you refer to fans of the film, not all of whom will ever be fans of Queen.
I guess there are extreme views on both sides which is a problem. All you have to do is watch the film to know it isn't flawless and all you have to do is look how many people have seen and enjoyed it and at how much awards attention and actual awards it has gotten to acknowledge it isn't entirely without any merit.
Critics can criticise as they wish. My problem with film criticism in general is when it ignores the audience of film and fails to pass comment on or indeed give any value to the emotional impact or enjoyment level of a film or to at all even mention whether it's at all likely to be pleasurable to experience. I personally feel if your review of a film doesn't let the reader know whether they might be likely to enjoy a film themselves or not, your review is a failure.
Everywhere has mean comments and cruelty I guess, not least this forum. It's a shame if this is the case on youtube. It certainly isn't the case in your post though - I didn't think anything you said at all mean.
I will say I use instagram and have seen many new fans of Queen's on there who have now listened to Queen's entire catalogue of albums, who are learning the piano parts to Queen songs themselves and reading all about Queen and watching all the live and documentary footage there is. :) And I am sure there are others who are only fans of the film and cast which is fine too and I presume they'll eventually move on to the next projects the actors undertake.
