Did they have a falling out? In an interview she mentioned some sort of jealously? Why would that be?
I've wondered about that - surely the rest of the band would not expect Freddie to leave them his royalties/residuals. Why would they be jealous of Mary?
She said the jealousy was over the house...but why? Surely the band didn't covet his house? Or did they want it to be turned in to a museum? Freddie would not want his house to be a museum, rather he wanted it filled with children, specifically Mary's I think
If they were jealous of her I think they would not make a movie in which her role is almost main role.
The sainting of her in the film is probably the only way she agreed to it being made. That and the cut of the profits she gets.
The daunting of her in the film is probably the only way she agreed to it being made. That and the cut of the profits she gets.
She isn't the one who made the decision to make the movie...in fact, she could have made a lot of money just writing a book...but she hasn't...she has been very private.
The band on the other hand has made a movie that portrays events and Freddie often inaccurately.
They had to have her permission to use the songs
Is this from a printed interview or from a video interview?
If the information comes from a printed interview, then we can’t assume it is correct, or true, given the way some things are made up or mistaken in articles. And the tabloids just make things up entirely sometimes.

Can we just agree about a few things:
1) Freddie was in love with Jim Hutton and Jim brought peace to him in his final years of life. Freddie was also a gay man.
2) Mary Austin truly cared about Freddie and was a good friend to him who not only wanted to see him happy, but if he was happy it made her happy and she was a person who was always there for him if he needed her.
When someone dies all sorts of folk can decide they are *entitled* to whatever. You can criticise that from every angle and it can be partly greed, but it can also be in grief.
3) Mary Austin had no actual input into the content of the film (the cast have said they did NOT have any contact with Mary and so had to completely decide themselves on how she would be in the film.)
Brian (especially) and Roger did. Brian has had kind words to say towards Mary and had either of them held anything against Mary, the film would be unlikely have had so much focus on her and Freddie's connection.
In terms of the original source of this thought, interviews derived from quotes of quotes (especially Lesley Ann Jones being the main source)... I don't know how reliable they are. I can't see why the band would have any cause to begrudge whoever Freddie left his money to...
I will query here, does Mary own the rights to Freddie's legacy? As in, does she have any right to veto a current "Queen" project? I had assumed not, but I ask as it is implied she does by above posters...?
Yes, I agree Brian does mention Mary fondly...Roger not so much, gave never heard him talk about her
I don't see why they'd have any reason to be jealous of her considering their own stash of riches!
True...but thats what she said...may be it isn't an issue over wealth
If there is no proof that she said it, then I will assume it is made up.
