I like it, especially Brian's guitar and Freddie's vocal.

I dunno - I think the 'cheap' drum sound was a stylistic thing, like the production of the rest of the record. It WAS 1989 after all. In 1989, it all sounded like what Queen should sound like in 1989.

But also yes - If that had been the second or even 3rd single in summer '89 I can imagine it being a good commercial hit.

If you listen to the percussion loop that opens Rain Must Fall and the start of the John Deacon/The Immortals track 'No Turning Back', from Biggles, they are very very similar. I guess John must have had at least some input to Rain Must Fall as it almost samples some of his earlier track.

Almost identical. And after listening back to No Turning Back, lets all be thankful Queen had already blown their 80s synth horn load 7 years earlier.

I like it too. Great intro, vocal and guitar. Catchy melody but some corny lyrics. Never thought lyrics were Queen's strong point anyway, for the most part.

Rain Must Fall is a rubbish song in my opinion but I may be beginning to like it more than I used to. However, I love listening to a similar song from around the same time; Don't Lose Your Head. It's quite a repetitive song but it's got a great sound to it - it really fills a room unlike Rain Must Fall. Don't Lose Your Head has a degree of heaviness throughout with the use of *real* drums and guitar. To summarise Don't Lose Your Head in three words: I love it.

DLYH is a great song. I prefer RMF though.
This place used to be great, but now it is an absolute joke. For serious Queen discussion, please visit http://www.queenforum.net

Having heard A Dozen Red Roses For My Darling first, when I finally heard DLYH I found it disappointing. All the oddness and groove was gone and instead those weak lyrics softened it.

The first recorded case of me telling disinterested friends that I preferred the original version on the b-side. Yep, I became 'that guy'.

Still waiting for Hoxton to discover and remix ADRRFMD to rip a hole in dancefloors and the charts.

The lyrics Don't drink and drive my car Don't get breathalised on DLYH is for John Deacon.
He got a ticket for driving drank Roger's car.

Also The title for ADRRFMD came after Roger thanked joan armatrading for her backing vocals on DLYH by giving her a dozen red roses.

Rain must fall is shit. I remember during '89 the Miracle was promoted as an album with classic sound with all Queen elements. Back to Rock, live atmosphere and fresh. Then party, the invisible man, my baby does me and rain must fall destroyed the expectations. Having unreleased songs like Face it alone, affairs, a new life is born, I guess we re falling out. They preferred to present their comeback with those shitty songs. They only managed to sound fresh with few songs and great guitar despite the bad choices.

I'm pretty sure I Want It All was promoted like that. The actual album was more 'It's the new funky fresh sound of 1989! Queen!'

^^^ exactly. I think it was Brian who said that the new album had elements of what had come previously, neither a fresh approach.

Absolutely love this track. The key change especially and Brian’s ending solos are so epic.

From the "Queen For An Hour" interview Roger said they took out lots of percussion overdubs to make room for vocals (and maybe guitars). So I'm guessing this song was Roger's.

And, FWIW, I rather like it.
