Hi all, I'm overwhelmed at the quick response! Thank you! I'm gonna go have a listen to these, especially the ones I haven't actually heard before.[/QUOTE]
I'm not saying that you shouldn't start threads like this, but there's not that many albums to listen to that you might be unfamiliar with... personally, I'd arm myself with that before hurling myself out into the void. Unless you JUST want to hear the romantic songs which in that case I'd recommend a Richard Clayderman Best Of.
Is there a band that you do know ALL the albums of? What drew you to post on here? Genuine question.
It's like me posting on a tank website because I visited a tank museum as a kid and occasionally see them on the news.
Bijou is a sweet song too...like a jewel
Further - a 'mixtape' should really be stuff that means something to you. Especially for your mum!
'I love this song you put on for me!'
'Oh I don't know it - someone off a forum said it was romantic.'
If we’re talking slow songs, I’m partial to anything with Freddie on piano. Besides YTMBA:
My Melancholy Blues
Jealousy
Seaside Rendezvous
In Only Seven Days
There Must Be More to Life Than This (solo song, also version with MJ. Long history to this.)
Your Mom might like the album Barcelona, which exists in the original and in an orchestrated version.
Freddie’s voice is nice in Love Me Like There’s No Tomorrow, but I don’t care for the song too much.
Agree with Dysan though, there’s not a lot of albums to listen through. Freddie changed his vocal style a lot over the years. It’s good to hear things in historical order, or at least be aware of what era things come from. And then there’s the whole issue of live vs. studio. I like YTMBA from Earls Court, but many like Hyde Park better.
Maybe a solution would be to buy Forever
When my gal and I are feeling a bit romantic, we put on our Queen mix tape which includes:
March of the Black Queen
Son and Daughter
Crash Dive On Mingo City
We hit endless repeat until I'm happy and fall asleep. At that point she turns the cassette over and plays The Show Must Go On.
We've never actually made it through MOTBQ, to be honest.
Funny, how love is.
Thanks all of you.... I'm taking a bit of time off -- drs order to minimize screentime, so I'll see you all later. I'll be listening to ALL of your recs though. Thanks SO VERY MUCH for indulging my little whim with such good grace.
Yours,
Indy xoxo
PS.
@Dysan -- you're a crotchety old thing aren't ya? I'm been laughing at your posts everywhere on this forum. I noticed you had NOTHING to contribute to my thread except to moan and bitch. Aren't there forum rules against trolling? IMO, I think you should take your own advice and post less and LISTEN MORE.
And, yes, there IS a band of which I know pretty much EVERY SONG. It's a duo, really. Been a fan for ages of the Pet Shop Boys. Heard of 'em? ;)
My problem is I think I've listened to Queen too much! I suggested you buy Queen Forever, which is a one stop shop for almost everything suggested in this thread and a very helpful bit of advice if you can't be bothered to listen to the handful of albums you don't have.
It's true, sometimes I can be crotchety and I'd hate for that to reflect in my postings. My questioning may have come across as aggressive and for that I apologise. The funnies are me, not bitching and moaning. I like to keep an air of humour in my posts, mixed with thoughtful musical archeology and knowledge when the thread requires - but when a thread comes in such as yours I like to understand the angle its creator was coming from. To me, this one didn't quite add up.
Yes I know Pet Shop Boys. Never really liked them at the time, but have enjoyed listening to them recently. A guy who drove me to school some mornings used to play their tapes (along with some Queen ones) so they are forever locked into the same emotional and nostalgic place occupied by Queen (albeit on a few rungs down).
I would add Nevermore to this thread, which to me is the most heartbreaking recording in the whole catalogue. Unfortunately it's segued to The Fairy Fellers Masterstroke on it's parent album but you can find a good stand alone version in the Fan Mix section. I'd avoid the BBC session version as it's a bit rougher and seems to lose the delicacy of the album cut.
nobody needs your confessions here, make a new thread...in three instances.
yeh lol
Not everyone master your art of monosyllabic posts.
eh
Dysan I had a heavy picture frame fall off the wall right onto my skull. It left a surface wound but I was gushing blood and whatnot and had to have a couple staples. They just came off today but I've been subjected to a lot of family legpulling (natural reaction I guess to relief that it wasn't much worse - I think I escaped with what seems a minor headwound) re nothing penetrating my thick skull - something you can tease me with as well.. I give you permission ;)
Yes I will buy QUeen Forever... thanks to you and everyone else for the suggestion. I'm back online now but have been warned to not be on too long.
Take care... and listen to some more PSB ;)
