IT IS OFFICIAL. If Queen Productions didn't own the rights, that doesn't mean that is not official. This concert always been released by WOWOW, on VHS, DVD and now on Bluray, but they seems to lost the rest of the footage, like David Swimmer did with the Montreal material, he recorded the two Montreal shows, and mount the video with bits of the two, and the material that he didn't used, he throw it away

Some Japan 85 songs were uploaded to the official YouTube account a while back in HD, I don't recall the quality looking any better than the official DVD that was previously released. I guess that's just life with a SD upgrade

If this is an official QPL release and has been rush released like they did before with no audio remix and just an upscale of the original video, then it’s a real waste and a money grab.

It's official in the sense that Sony owns the rights to this, and they are the ones releasing it in Japan only.

Just because David Swimmer or his estate didn't surrender all the raw footage to QPL, doesn't mean it was thrown away or doesn't exist. Considering the attitute Brian had towards him, I can't imagine Swimmer would have wanted to help QPL/him in any way.
And also in this case, there are all sorts of reasons why they don't utilise the masters or work tapes - cost of transferring and then remastering and editing them, or someone else owns those tapes. Even a band as big as Queen, a DVD or blu ray is ony going to shift a certain number of units without good publicity and distribution. The company that now owns the rights might not even be the company that originally filmed the gig, hence not having the work tapes. It's common for individuals to withhold tapes of all types - waiting for the big payout that won't happen, or even just having the knowledge they own something no one else has.

Who's this David Swimmer guy anyway? Is he related to Saul Swimmer?
