'A Kind Of Magic' on Freddie Mercury Tribute

I think that everybody here see that 'setlist' that appear on a video of the Freddie Mercury Tribute in 1992, and 'A Kind Of Magic' was on that setlist, but it was never performed that day.

Today, looking to some David Bowie videos on youtube, I just see a little video of Bowie arriving to the Bray Studios where the rehearsals of the shows take place, and on that video we see Bowie talking out the building with Elton, and my surprise was that in the meantime, some music is sounding on the background, and it was 'Magic' that it was playing inside.... very curious, becouse...I can't hear very well who is performing it... what do you think?

I haven't opened the link but I recall reading years ago that either Chris Thompson or Roger Taylor would have preformed AKOM if someone had pulled out of the concert at the last minute. Also, that The Scorpions were there for the same reason.
There were rumors that Axl Rose might not show up or be late as he (and the band) had a bad reputation for being unreliable.

On the original TV broadcast (maybe on the original VHS release can't remember) after Roger Daltrey you can hear the intro to A Kind Of Magic start-up then Roger (Taylor) turns quickly to his right and shakes his head, to say no.

I had thought that A Kind Of Magic was bumped because of Bowie's unexpected recital of The Lord's Prayer, but if it was due to be earlier in the set then it could be that the issues Spinal Tap had with their guitar (caused by someone in Guns n Roses messing about with their gear) which caused several minutes delay earlier in the day had meant that the Queen portion of the show was running late from the start.

I do recall reading before that Chris Thompson was going to sing it and was a bit miffed about it being cut...that was his 'reward' for filling in for all the guest singers during Queen's rehearsals in the weeks leading up to the event.

If I remember correctly, ( I repeat ... IF) ...
- A Kind of Magic was supposed to be singing A Kind of Magic, it was cut because of the technical problems, mainly before Spinal Tap's "set"
- Scorpions were there as a backup for Guns'n'Roses, if they decided it's not worth the risk (there were some threats against them thanks to Axl's alleged homophobia)

The kind of magic intro was also caught on radio broadcast too. You can clearly hear it, man it so sad that they stop the perfomance on last second. Would love to hear at least full rehearsell
