What concert has Scorpions as a BACKUP?!?!? If you have a megaband on site, why not let them perform a song or two? How did Scorpions even agree to do this?

Not sure the Scorpions were seen as a 'megaband' compared to some of the artists who performed that day.

They were fresh off a big hit the previous year so I guess I can see both sides of this one. A Sails of Charon on the day would've been nuts.

I had always wondered why The Scorpions were there. I wish they performed.

I'd say they didn't want to bog down the event with hairy rockers but I guess that was kind of beyond saving!

I wonder what would've happened if it had been a year or 18 months later when the musical landscape was changing.

Billy Squier was there too (he’s on stage for WATC) - don’t know if he was also there as vocal back up or just an invited guest as a friend of Freddie.
