JB, look at everyone inundating you with info, how ever will you decide? ;)))

Maybe I’m showing my ignorance, but, what exactly are you looking for? Like a list of songs he composed? videos of him writing songs? Maybe I could help you search if I had a better idea?

Chevy, glad your trip was nice. It’s nice to get away but also always nice to return home, eh?

Aw. Thanks Amidds. Am really interested in seeing More analysis about his composing genius; how he created a melody, what abilities, knowledge, etc it took. Maybe The work he did with Mike M and Monserrat would be a good think to dig in deeper to.

Love that there is an official study about his vocal ability, octave range, , a lot about production/studio ability, costumes, lyrics stage performance, etc

Haven’t seen as much about composing. I am now recalling there was someone communicating with Thor and Lee who had a music background, he got more technical. I’ll go back and share link if find it.

I have a few samples of what found (to follow) but not sure of sources. If it’s oreferred that I move this to another place just say the word. I just love picking your brains. :—)))

Example no. 1. Haven’t listened To podcast yet but that’s my next step. I’d imagine there is lots out there just haven’t dug too deep yet. :)

Freddie Mercury, lead singer of Queen till 1991, was an experimental genius. A experimental genius is a person who uses trial and error with no clear goal as a way to create their work. On top of not having a goal, they are never satisfied with their final product and are known to revisit old works. That definition is based off information found in Malcolm Gladwell’s podcast episode 7, Hallelujah, of Revisionist History.

JB, wow good idea! That would be very interesting. Gotta say, haven’t seen/hear too much about that except what you’ve probably already read in Phoebe’s books. Will see what I can find though.

In the meantime, I just found this and had to share. It’s from the Innuendo launch party so you all may have seen it already....

Ooohhh thanks Amidds. Had not seen that Particular one!! Woo hoo!

as promised, here are the other examples :—))

An artist friend that Freddie used to practice music with comments on Freddie’s talent: "The first time I heard Freddie sing, I was amazed...He had a huge voice. Although the piano style was very affected, very Mozart, he had a great touch. From a piano player’s point of view, his approach was unique...he had great, natural sense of melody. I picked that up straight away. For me, it was the most interesting aspect of what he was doing.”
——————————————————————
He composed most of his songs on
piano, and performed them using a grand
piano or keyboard. Many of his original works with the band were awarded Grammy, MTV, and Echo awards as well as other prestigious accolades.

Amidds, I hadn't seen the Innuendo party video. Brian and Roger did a good job protecting Freddie by blowing off questions about further touring. Headlong is one of my favorite songs, so I liked seeing that footage. I know Freddie is very thin, but he's still right there giving everything to the song.

Thanks Amidds...It's not too often I see videos I haven't watched before. Great find. Must have been so painful for Brian and Roger to put on a happy face when discussing the Innuendo album, knowing deep down they would never again celebrate another album release with their dear friend and bandmate.

ThereUHI....I LOVED the link you posted, Queen: An Exploded Diagram". I read some of the song analyses...really interesting stuff. Look forward to reading even more.

Rainbow, I'm so glad you liked the blog. I found it when I discovered the song, "Bijou" (sigh) and was researching more about the song. Her post on that is lovely, btw. I just finished the album "Jazz", so I'm half-way through. She's also a bit tired at this point and is sometimes repetitive, but I still give her lots of credit and it's been instructive and entertaining for this Queen newby. I think her goal was to make money, but as a long-time blogger myself, I know how hard it is to do that, at least directly from a blog.

JB, will keep my eyes open! In my "research", I haven't come up with too much though the quote you included sounds very familiar.....

Katy/Rainbow-glad you enjoyed! Yes, watching it now, so many years later, is much more poignant than it would have been at that time! And, maybe it's due to hindsight, but, Brian and Roger seemed obviously sad and overly thoughtful for a party. I teared up when Brian was saying that Freddie didn't want to tour right now but maybe they'd get him to change his mind!

Amidds, I just watched the video of the launch party, so thanks for that. I'd seen snippets of Roger and Brian which came from it, but seeing the full clip was a first--thanks.

Amidds-Katy-Rainbow. I had same reaction. I recalled that other interview around that time, think it was a radio interview where they mentioned him Being home working on it.

Amidds. Thanks a lot!

I know it’s a little off topic. So, I’ll switch composing to the book/research thread if I find anything may be of interest. Just FYI :-))

Have a nice day everyone!

A quick update to all those concerned about my medical issue. First of all, thank you for your well-wishes.
Believe it or not, I am on post-op day #10, a place I have been for now, for the third time. This time as of last
Tuesday, no bleeding or drainage from the surgical site. My sutures are very tight, which is good for little
drainage, but very uncomfortable, especially when they are forced to stretch during Physical Therapy and
walking I am able to do. The pain meds helps fairly well. However, I am also very conscious of the need
to taper off of them. Oxycodone, for my own peace of mind, needs to be tapered down to zero as of
post-op day # 14 (or Oct. 29) next week. I was almost at zero following the second surgery. Unfortunately,
with the third surgery, I was back to a full amount. Physical Therapy is doing well as long as I pre-medicate
about an hour before my exercises. because of the extra "tight suture" pain.
I am sorry that I can only pop in for now. The plan is to catch up to our self-made time schedule for getting
things done. Therefore, I am going to Palm Springs to see Lee and work hard, but leave some room for
Halloween and P.S.Pride weekend fun. I need a drink or two! This thing has been interrupting both my work
on the book and fun, since August 21st
Hope you are all doing well. I look forward to the day that I can get to know the newcomers to the thread. I
AM reading, just not replying too much at this time. I hope you guys all understand.
Love to you ALL!
Thor
