I am an engineer and probably quieter than John. I am definitely not a conversationalist.

I'm sorry if I offended Chevy, but I was only looking to get this topic back on the first page.

ThereUHI....Just finished listening to Bijou again. I agree...what a beautiful song! The way Brian makes the guitar "cry" is absolutely haunting...and Freddie delivers those simple lyrics with such poignancy. Just heartbreaking.

Rainbow Yes brains skills on that guitar speak too me too.Its amazing how instruments can speak to you without words.

I meant Brian but yes he does have a brilliant brain as well lol!

Chevy....Yes, that is exactly what Brian does with his guitar in Bijou...speaks without words.

ThereUHI...Did you find any song description on the "Exploded Queen" site that you particularly disagreed with, or maybe one that you thought was spot on?

NotQuiteAShilling....Just curious...did people generally recognize that you were dressed up as Freddie in the "I Want To Break Free" video, or did you have to tell them who you were? I was hoping to see a few Freddies out trick-or-treating but alas, there were none!

Rainbow, I'm glad you also discovered, or rediscovered, Bijou. The guitar and lyrics speak with great emotional power.

As to your question about whether I disagreed with her opinions--yes, but it might open a can of Jim and Mary worms. I didn't care for her take that 'Love of my Life' was strictly about Mary. As I've said before, I'm new a this Queen thing, but in my readings, the song is simply a song--beautiful and lyrical--but not about anyone in particular. And, if you take the lyrics as is, they don't quite make sense, whether from FM's standpoint, or even MA's. I know that's gonna piss off someone, or many, so I'll leave my opinion there. I should add that I have a pretty soft spot for Jim, full disclosure.

I haven' listened to Don't Try Suicide, but it's next on my list. Exploded Diagram has an interesting take on it, and it's going to be unpleasant to listen to. My understanding is that it "might" be in reference to David Minns, though she doesn't mention that.

I like that she calls out Brian on some of his creepier lyrics, and let's face, some really are (especially in more contemporary views) a bit inappropriate. But, she gives him is just dues, as well, so I think she's fair that way.

She's much more into rock and roll than I've ever been, so she does some comparisons with other bands and styles, which isn't always helpful to me, but it's her project, so there!

TUHI.
I have a soft spot for Jim also from all I have read and seen in interviews.

I believe it was in David E and David M’s book that David M does say Don’t Try Suicide was about him.

Happy Weekend to all... retired or not. :)))

Hope all is well with all of you.

Thereyouhaveit, Love of my life to me isn't particularly a sad song as some make it out to be.I can tell you one I can relate to and its somebody to love. That song eats me alive its torture.A person can be in a room full of people in a committed relationship for many years and still be searching for somebody to love.Thats all I care to say on that one.It makes me wonder if Freddie himself felt that way too.Who knows.I too like Jimmy he seemed to be a great guy for him from what I have read and heard so far have a nice weekend.

Chevy, I agree that 'Love...' isn't sad; melancholic, maybe, but not heartbreaking. My quibble with the blogger of 'Queen: An Exploded Diagram' is that she assumes the song is about MA and there seems plenty of other suggestions that it's just a song. You have a good weekend, too!

Hello Everyone ,Hope your having a terrific weekend .I been thinking about the song dont try suicide do you think that song was meant for David Minns. Its kinda a heartless song I feel.Maybe I'm taking it out of context completely.Did David Minns end up In a mental break down over the break up? I know relationships can have that effect on people at times. It just seems to me Freddie was always on the move jumping from guy to guy searching for that special someone and during those times alot of fellas got their feelings hurt.Am I wrong?I have noticed guys are really tough on eachother in these situations how can they let their guard down to trust anyone. This is just something I have noticed over and over again. Is this why so many men are single?

Freddie wrote a few songs in this anti-suicide vein (KPtOW, PISCtP, FWBF, HoiT, and DTSH)

I always loved DtS, as it sometimes help put me in a better mood when I was down. It basically told me to stop the self pity party, realize things were not as bad as they seemed, and get back to reality and do something.

Saintjuib, interesting the lyrics mean something else entirely different to me.I guess that's what's intended different songs mean different things to different people. Thanks for your input.Kinda like Bohemian means so many different things to different people.I know what Jim Hutton said it meant to him he supposidly told someone. But others they would argue this.I know what I think it meant and when it was started and how long it took to create and that speaks for itself to me.But others might disagree right.Thank you I appreciate your response to my question .I witnessed something's over the holiday concerning men and their relationships and they are so much more unkind than women by far to eachother.Im surprised they dont walk around with black eyes.
