St. Jiub, you've certainly shown me another way to look at DTS. I think we all take our own meaning from songs, and I'm glad this one has helped you. I'm totally embarrassed to admit that I have no idea what the other songs you listed are and I can't find a site I thought I had marked that would help me. Just when I think I'm getting fairly knowledgeable about all things Queen, I realize how much I have to learn. The site I need is one that lists all Queen songs/lyrics alphabetically. Does anyone have it?

Wait, got it. This is the link I needed to identify the songs St. Jiub mentioned. Interesting list. I had never thought about those songs in that light before.

BTW, when I figured out what the songs were I had a huge duh moment. I should have been able to decode that.

I do love breaking songs down and thinking about what they mean to me or better yet what the artist was thinking when he wrote them. Its interesting and could be fun to get everyone's responses to some of Freddie's songs. He meant them and left them for his fans interpretations.

Thanks, Saint Jiub for your take on Don't Try Suicide. Though on the surface, FM's attitude through the lyrics is harsh, I think I probably agree with you about his goals in the song.

Katy, good for you for decoding (duh, still working on that...) and thanks for the link.

Chevy, it is fun to read lyrics, though we're only pretending to know what is in a song writer's head. I still like Freddie's comment (paraphrasing here): if you see it dear, it's probably there.

TuhI,Yep I Love that phrase him leaving it all up to his audience such a generous showman of royalty words can't begin to describe.

TuhI,I have a very vivid imagination when it comes to things I guess in this case it applies to music.I was even that way as a child. It often got me into trouble.I out grew that though.I agree the artist has his own ideas that trigger his creativity to compose his artistic talents.I think Freddie had a vivid imagination too.How wonderful it can be especially in his line of work.

Chevyman Yes Don’t Try Suicide was written about David Minns attempt of suicide by overdose because Freddie had fallen in love with Joe Fanelli, a younger man he met while on tour in the US. Rough times. During the happier days in their relationship, Freddie wrote Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy with David in mind. I absolutely love that song! I’ve never been one to analyze the lyrics, it’s all about the music for me. I’ve been known to sing the wrong lyrics to songs from my favorite artists and when I find out I’m always shocked. No way, he can’t be saying that! LOL

Terri,That song to me really hits home and I did find it really sad to write such a tragic song but at the end of a day it is just a song.Joe Famelli was such a cute guy I think he looked like such a baby I didnt realize he was much younger than Freddie. He was a great cook too I read.He was another loyal friend that was with him till the end I think caring for him.Where did he find him anyway?I did read when Freddie passed Joe was present and was shaking and Peter held his hand.I wonder was it fear going through his mind thinking about things to come in his own life.He was sick as well at the time he was a very sincere friend and brave guy to do what he did for Freddie.

Chevyman Joe nursed Freddie, knowing that he himself would also most likely succumb to the horrible disease. Joe died not too long after Freddie. The whole thing is so tragic. I think Joe was originally from Massachusetts but I have no idea where they met. It was 1978 so it was probably during The News of the World Tour.
Besides Live Aid if I could have seen one concert it would have been Houston 1977. What about you? Have you been? If not, do you have a concert in mind that you would have liked to have seen?

Terri,I was born in 73 I would like to have seen some of their old concerts I so loved and admired 70's Freddie. He was absolutely beautiful in the seventies.I think they stopped touring in the US in 82 or 83 and I was like 10 years old or so.By the time I was old enough to attend a concert of theirs Freddie stopped touring and soon after passed away the year I graduated highschool.Such a lose to us that weren''t old enough then but sure are old enough now.

A quick update to all those concerned about my medical issue. First of all, thank you for your well-wishes.
Believe it or not, I am on post-op day #10, a place I have been for now, for the third time. This time as of last
Tuesday, no bleeding or drainage from the surgical site. My sutures are very tight, which is good for little
drainage, but very uncomfortable, especially when they are forced to stretch during Physical Therapy and
walking I am able to do. The pain meds helps fairly well. However, I am also very conscious of the need
to taper off of them. Oxycodone, for my own peace of mind, needs to be tapered down to zero as of
post-op day # 14 (or Oct. 29) next week. I was almost at zero following the second surgery. Unfortunately,
with the third surgery, I was back to a full amount. Physical Therapy is doing well as long as I pre-medicate
about an hour before my exercises. because of the extra "tight suture" pain.
I am sorry that I can only pop in for now. The plan is to catch up to our self-made time schedule for getting
things done. Therefore, I am going to Palm Springs to see Lee and work hard, but leave some room for
Halloween and P.S.Pride weekend fun. I need a drink or two! This thing has been interrupting both my work
on the book and fun, since August 21st
Hope you are all doing well. I look forward to the day that I can get to know the newcomers to the thread. I
AM reading, just not replying too much at this time. I hope you guys all understand.
Love to you ALL!

Thor -

It's only been 10 days since your last update (it seems longer).

I hope your tight sutures and weaning off pain meds is beginning to be in your rear view mirror, and I also hope you enjoyed your trip to Palm Springs.

Did the wildfires affect you or Lee?

Please respond eventually when convenient. I feel like a stalker. LOL

St. Jiub & Chevy, you both crack me up, you stalkerazis! I mean that in jest. I want an update, too! St. Jiub, I had laughed, but I get your "ttt." My late father was an engineer, as well as some of my friends. I'm used to their technical idiosyncrasies.

I gave "DTS" more than one try on YouTube. I wasn't crazy about the song initially. I felt the refrain "Don't try suicide" was too upbeat and perky. However, I liked the line how "Nobody's worth it," but I don't get "Nobody cares" and "Nobody gives a damn." Those aren't exactly therapeutic lyrics. The more I play "DTS," it has grown on me. I'm not completely enamored by the song, but I can appreciate its intent. I like the instrumentals, esp. the piano, on 1:43 "You need help" and 2:30. Apparently, the song has helped many people who are down, so who am I to criticize it? When I'm in a foul mood, I prefer John Deacon's "Spread Your Wings" for inspiration.

Terri557, besides Live Aid, I would like to have seen Queen: Budapest Rhapsody live in concert in '86, prior to the fall of communism in Hungary in '89. Freddie had made a spectacular entrance on stage, draped in the Hungarian flag - sans the communist coat of arms - for "We Will Rock You." He was at his most masculine for the song, lots of aggression in the way he vocalized.

JB, I swear, I'll get to the Queen + Bejart Ballet video before 2020. I'm presently reading both the official autobiography of Elton John, recommended by doughnut, and journalist Randy Shilts "And the Band Played On," about the AIDS epidemic in the U.S. in the '80s. For Elton John's biography, I went straight for the Freddie Mercury pages in the index 1st, before I began the book. I couldn't help myself!
