Whether it’s true or not is another matter, but that’s all I ever heard from videos discussing the ending of that friendship

I like the Everett-Mercury interview because, I love Freddie’s soothing voice but I love being taken back to 1976 and just hearing what that day was like, the temp and weather of that day, in London. Actually living that day as if I was there

Friendships can be complex...there were probably other factors involved which we would not be privy to, nor should we be. Somehow, I doubt the the majority of people that Freddie bought cocaine for always reciprocated in kind. I'm also guessing he paid many more restaurant bills for others, than were paid for him. He seemed to be rather generous that way. I read on Wiki that Freddie and Kenny later reconciled. I wonder if that is true? (There is probably another QZ thread dedicated to this topic that I need to read.)

Has anyone tried the "Freddie Meter" yet? I gave it a shot, but my old computer was not able to calculate the results. I was not expecting a very high score though. Freddie would never have wanted to do a duet with me. To bad the meter does not measure singing enthusiasm instead! :)

Lsgp03...I agree. In addition, Freddie was obviously having such a great time with Kenny and was so relaxed, that I felt like we were being treated to Freddie's real, fun personality. I would love to have been in the studio with them for that chat. While Freddie was always interesting to listen to, he was often guarded (out of necessity) in later years, and that changed the tone of subsequent interviews.

Hi Rainbow— ya, I think Jim and/or Peter’s books say something about them having talked a few times to talk it thru.

What is the Freddie meter? Would love to try it. Can you please re-post link to it?

Freddie meter——I got it. :-))

JB050...Glad you found it! For those of you who haven't seen this, here is a chance to measure how well your voice matches up with Freddie's. It's easy to do. You can pick one of four songs to sing and they give you the lyrics.

Yeah when drugs fuel things tempers and greed come into play often.I would be upset too if he didnt share with me and I bought it all the time.He was a little greedy.I bet they had some pretty fun times as well during those times to remember and maybe some they wanted to forget. We have to remember Kenny got the famous bohemian Rhapsody played when noone wanted to touch it didnt he.It was so long noone else thought it was worth playing.Boy were they wrong.I can never grow bored listening to it.I think every note anyone has ever played is in that song.Such a masterpiece.

Lsgp, thanks for the links. I'm not sure if I ever heard Part 1 in its entirety and I know for a fact I'd never heard Part 2. Of course I've heard Freddie doing the weather and I have that little snippet in my files. These were fun to listen to and I especially appreciate the slide show that accompanied Part 1. Doesn't Kenny imply that Freddie has an entourage with him for the interview? You can hear other people once in a while. I wonder who went with him. At one point Freddie mentions Peter Straker, calling him Serita, but I couldn't tell if he was in the room or if Freddie was dedicating some song to him and some of his other friends.

Katy, every name Freddie gave in that interview as a dedication, were the female names he insisted on giving each friend, I think he said Sharon which is Elton John, Serita I believe was Peter Straker, Phoebe of course Peter Freestone, Phyllis was Rod Stewart.....Rod was invited to Queen parties but not part of the Garden Lodge friendships, but friends nonetheless.

I read an interview that Freddie and Rod were good friends, and Rod was on tour, was giving a concert in Michigan, and they purposely waited till after the concert to tell him Freddie died as to not let him suffer before going onstage

Lsgp, yes I knew all the names Freddie mentioned in that interview were the female names he gave his friends. What I was wondering was who was with him at the radio station with Kenny. I think Kenny said something about Freddie's entourage being with him at the station and you can hear people laughing at times in the background. I was just curious as to whether Peter Straker was there though I guess we will never know.

Rainbow, I tried the FreddieMeter. My personal best was 70% Freddie on "Bohemian Rhapsody" and 80% on timbre for "We are the Champions." It was like karaoke. I want to strive for at least 80% Freddie or a "B." To me, a 70% is a "C," and that is unacceptable for me! LOL
I wonder if it's because I'm a female voice performing songs by Freddie, a male vocalist?

Katydy, I have to make a correction, we know Phoebe was P. Freestone but this interview was 1976 and P. Freestone didn’t meet Freddie until 1979.
Not sure when Freddie met Straker, but had he known him in 76, more than likely Straker was in that studio.
They said Straker was always laughing and joking which is what we heard in background. But in Freddie’s list of dedications he did include the name Phoebe, so it must have been a different Phoebe

Lsgp, you are much better at timelines than I am. I think you may be a better listener than I am too. I heard Freddie say something about dedications, and then I caught "Serita" and a few other names but I couldn't tell you what they were. The only reason I wondered if Straker was there because I found it interesting that Kenny said there was an entourage with him and it made me wonder who it might have been.
