Amidds, I ran into this Myer-Briggs site a few weeks ago in case you're interested:
https://keirsey.com/temperament-overview/
Amidds I have all the time in the world so when you spot something you want to.discuss from the book i
I'm here .
I do agree that it seems he did modify his behaviour around Mary . This is echoed by Peter when he talked about spending Christmas eve with Elton John . He knew he would. be able to discuss the real Freddie when not in her company . You are quite right that it's common to hide aspects of ourselves from people , generally so we don't hurt them or cause upset .
Perk summed things pretty well if say and I'm sure we
can have in-depth conversations without falling out lol . For those that don't want to participate maybe scroll on past. We can't please everyone here and we all have opinions and we have a right to discuss as long as it's fair and calm.
Delliah I'm so confused now lol . The thank you note came about after it was mentioned Jim had received a letter from jer. You said Mary likely wouldn't have got one
As she was considered family. I think you said jer had said this in an interview.
I wondering if it's your own fee!ing that jer wouldn't have thanked Mary rather than jers? Just need to get it clear in my head as we may have cross wires .
It's slightly different in the UK as people don't tend to provide baked goods as a thank you . In the UK it's pretty common place to write thank you notes to whomever you have received a gift from and that includes family members . It's considered a polite thing to do . I see baked goods offered a lot in American tv programs so maybe that is more of a thing there .
So I don't see why jer wouldn't write a thank you note to others that looked after her son so well including Mary . I'm thinking joe and phoebe who Freddie called ' family ' may have been thank to , I hope so as they were out of this world with the care they gave to Freddie . .
Ps it's John's bday today ....happy birthday John
Excuse my grammar and spelling , it's the kindle changing things before I notice
HelloDelilah - seems very interesting...I will definitely add to my read list when life slows down!!!
Doughnut - looking forward to book discussion - we need to start a FM or Queen book club!!! Scrolling past stuff we don't agree on - yes please!!! Or use that handy PM button and have direct discussions!
Regarding the thank you note from Jer - I think she really wanted to make a point to Jim that she "knew" and accepted Jim as Freddie's love. I feel that FM's strong sense of loyalty and desire to protect prevented him from seeing that his parents did know and understand and she didn't want
that confusion residing with Jim. As far as not sending Mary one - I think Chevy made a good point that moms know things. Jer probably knew that FM and Mary were still close friends but could sense him holding a piece of himself back from her. Makes writing a personal note a little
difficult when you don't really know what you can say. I mean, what would that look like....."thanks for acting as my sons beard at times and helping him to keep the secrets that the world may not be ready to understand yet? Including, possibly you (Mary)?" Yes, I have a strong sense that Mary
wanted to accept FM unconditionally, but was always hoping it was a phase.....
Happy birthday to John! Wherever you are - I hope life is treating you well!!!!
Great conversations!
Can’t wait to get to read back a few pages.
Book club great idea!!! Still patiently waiting for library copy of as it began :-))
Hope you are all having a good day!
Amidds we did start a book thread a few months ago but no-one posts in it now . I could find it and post in it so it brings it back to the first easy to find page .
Thanks you explanation about the jer thank you makes perfect sense to me and it brings me back to my thoughts on why she may have ceased contact. It's possible she felt awkward knowing that jer would have found out how Freddie had really been living his life . That's just my opinion though and I'm probably way off .
Amidds I did add some parts of Peter's book with which he voiced his opinion that she was a reminder of the life he could have when the other business was over . This matches with you thoughts . I feel that's desperately sad as she must have put her life on hold in some respects . Again my thoughts only .
Freddie was such an interesting man who had many layers to him . I don't think there wil! Be another Freddie in my lifetime .
JB my library has no queen or Freddie related books . Is it booked out to someone at the moment ?
Amidds,I do agree and have experienced this. You can't be yourself around certain people.I have straight friends who I cant be myself with.I usually dont have a good time as I do with my friends that aren't straight .It seems I am able to talk to them about matters and they can relate more to how I feel.I also can act crazy as hell and that's me sometimes and they dont judge me for it.They accept me as I am.The rest of the world seems to lack this i noticed this from a real young age.
Doughnut and Amidds, I believe Mary thought Freddie was going through a phase too.She waited for his return but he never did.Another thing that puzzles me he used her to take to his parents house how would he explain her being pregnant wouldn't this raise suspision.Thats why I say his parents knew his orentation. They just didn't want to blast it out loud to the press .Their son was a major rock star and that's how he made a living.Maybe they felt the need to protect him as much as he wanted to protect them from the press.
JB - how exciting! I assume your library had access to a copy? I waited 2 weeks for mine to come in and was so disappointed that it arrived the day I left for vacation! I could've read while travelling and now I'm just IMPATIENTLY waiting until I have time to start reading it. Of course, I'm also
impatiently waiting for Thor and Lee's book as well......
Doughnut - Maybe I'm misunderstanding your question but I'll jump in here. My library didn't have a copy but they have a lending program where they brought a copy in from somewhere else so I am able to borrow it for a couple of weeks. Maybe your library has a program like that? Never hurts
to ask. I can understand lack of posting for a book club page I guess, it's not like anyone is releasing new books on Queen of FM every other month. This page will probably turn into one anyway when Thor and Lee's comes out. (yes, i've mentioned their book 2x, I admitted I am impatient, lol and maybe I'll drive them nutty enough to give us an update??????)
Chevy - again, though, not too unusual. I know many families where the politeness they show each other overshadows honesty/communication. Not necessarily a bad thing but I feel it can lead to some miscommunication and cause some undue pressure and stress. Maybe that's what happened with Freddie and his parents? He respected their religious beliefs and they respected his need for privacy. I prefer it the other way around....I have always told my kids to be honest and upfront with me so we can face everything head on. They may not like my opinions or advice but at
least they know that I will always be there for them and love them no matter what. I will admit that I have also advised them that there are things no parents should ever know about their kids lol! I don't think I have a single friend that believes in "TMI" and, while I have no problem with that, I don't
need that with my kids :)
Hi Doughnut!
Mine didn’t have it either but we’re able to get it thru the library sharing program system of local libraries. Yep, waiting for it to be returned then sent to my library. Amidds, I believe, found it that way too, I followed suit. :—)))
I so agree with your post about Freddie being interesting, having so many layers and that he was completely an original.
Amidds, I agree me coming from such a strict and religious family were I had to hide everything I always let my kids know they could talk to me about anything .Gladly they always have.
Happy birthday John Boy!
JB, They have books on Freddie through the library.Thats awesome no cost just have to use library card.
Just catching up on a few:
(Who Wants To Live Forever is one of my favorite songs because of the power of Freddie's voice. I knew it was on the set list and I had a secret worry that Adam would not be able to deliver the same chills that Freddie always does on that song. No worries, very powerful. Not the same chills Freddie gives me, but not a disappointment.)
Katydyd—Extremely well said! That’s the performance I keep going back to watch. It’s usually hard for me to listen to it. It really was all encompassing and powerful. Adam was incredible singing it. The visuals and the emotion of the vocal and instruments. It really was a felt experience.

JB050. No thanks needed! Katydyd's question made me curious, so I decided to look up this info online because I didn't know either. It sounds like "all net proceeds" means the same as "100% of the profit". For Queen + Bejart: Ballet For Life it says "100% of the Royalties" will be donated. I don't know how royalties are calculated, but it might have something to do with the proceeds? Help...any business majors out there? LOL ....Helping combat HIV/AIDS worldwide seems like a great cause to me!)
Rainbow—thanks!!! Great reply! I needed a business major too. When I saw the specific wording questioned my own accuracy. Haahaaa. I’m an incurable fact checker... of my own stuff....so always appreciate the fact correctors. :-))
