Terri. Great banana pics! :)
JB - thanks for the clarification on the previous discussion regarding the '86 "dark period". I believe you are correct and I do remember reading that in Jim's book. Makes me wonder if As It Began was referring to a different time or got the year wrong. I did notice a few inconsistencies in the timeline in that book but won't say exactly what cause I don't want to spoil your reading for you. Have you gotten the book yet?
Doughnut-again, don't want to spoil anything for JB but would love to discuss the book with you. Did you notice any inconsistencies like I just mentioned? I will admit they were very small but that's something that drives me crazy like poor grammar or spelling. It tends to take you out of the reading if you stumble over those things I think. Maybe when JB catches up, we can hit that book thread you mentioned! No pressure JB :)
Amidds,Doughnut is on vacation she will be back tommorow I think.
Thanks Chevy!!
Amidds, so glad your getting treading time! Sounds like your half way through. that is so thoughtful of you not to want to share before I read it, thank you! Don’t worry if something comes out it will just increase my suspense.
I would absolutely love a book discussion... so much??
Please anyone correct me / fill in details I’m sure I’m just skimming the surface. Don’t know if this helps for timeframe but I do recall an interview with Brian when he said the Munich years were tough they were struggling in their personal lives and he mentions something about Freddie in some situations that weren’t good for him. (Complete paraphrase).
Reading not treading. And, I’m all fairness to myself question mark is right next to exclamation point. Haha. No question at all... I’d be in for that. Ok I’m done.
Thank you FreddieDarling for those great pics from the 60’s
Jb, I'm not gonna spend too much time on this one but I think they were tough times for Freddie and maybe he had enough and was finished with partying and was ready to go home.I think not everyone but some of us could identify with him on this.Maybe he was just bored and was ready to move on.
Chevy. Thanks. Ya, I agree we all sure do go through things. I can’t even imagine, in addition to “normal” life struggles and situations, being in the public. They, somehow, handle it amazingly.
Amidds, does that help for timeframe. Can’t wait to read that book. And the fact that the band read and approved it, says a lot too.
JB - it does help with the timeline of the previous discussion on here, thanks. The book references dark times in the early 80's as well though, which contradicts the other books I have read and the comments Thor and Lee have posted here. Obviously, all those people weren't with him 24/7 so they can't testify to everything going on in his life but, I feel as if maybe As It Began got the timeline a little wrong. There are a few instances like that in the book. Not judging, as my memory is obviously not infallible. I think it's just my OCD that picks up and focuses on that stuff lol!
Amidds-haha. My brain works the same way... connecting dots. :)
Katy-you asked about taking photos/video. Ya, I think the same as you, try to be present, but I do end up taking some. And, send clips to share the experience. I noticed I had video on and quickly went off when Freddie was on screen. I was completely present. And, Lap of the Gods revisited, love that song. I don’t usually tape a whole song. And being so close was Amazing to be able to get some close-up photos. Haahaaa. I like that it’s a bit different experience where you sit.... all good. Liked Jo T’s description too of seeing from different places.
Still patiently waiting for As it Began.
And there’s someone out there trying to sell it for $800. Ha!
Hope everyone has a good day.
Amidds hi I'm back and had a great time. If you can tell me the page numbers of as it began I can have a look and discuss .
I was thrown by the spelling of phoebe and I wonder if it was an affectionate term as when you say phoebe phonetically it's sounds !i!e 'feebee
Can posted before I finished . Feebie I think it was and I hope I've explained my theory ok ?
Dam kindle
JB ill sort the link for the newspaper article and post it asap.
Can't remember who mentioned Winnie giving Freddie a hard time but I'm pretty sure that relationship was dead by then . He had settled with Jim by this point .
I'm more of the mindset it was returning to Munich and seeing the effects hiv was having . By 1986 people would have been more aware of the virus and thus it probably affected the gay community at that time . It was possibly a shock or a wake up call to Freddie . Add far as I know this was the only date on the tour Freddie appeared angry .
Phoebe has said on his b log that Freddie felt no different to other tours other than being a bit more tired which he put down to the larger stage .
Munich was when it appears Paul prenter was telling Freddie he was better than queen and so Freddie got swayed. The wake up call was mr bad guy not doing well . He was also drinking a lot and partying etc. The band thought they may have lost Freddie so it's why it's a dark time .
Thor hope you are recovering well . Take it easy xxx
This is all information I've got d from interviews and documentaries.
I
Sorry about typos lol
