Guys in the UK may be getting overwhelmed with the amount of Queen music on adverts during programs at the moment. Everything from SSOR, WWRY, AOTD, Flash, to name a few and now this video appears:-

(sorry not clickable, not a hardship to copy / paste)

What is happening? The prices on the Uk 'tour' (London and Manchester is a UK tour? are mental, or are they just the biggest arenas? to cash into)

As a fan of 45 years, seen them many times, this is just getting desperate.

A mate of mine was at this corporate gig, apparently it was great. But man, this is beginning to demonstrate it is just a cash cow now. BM is 72 RT is 70, how much do they need?

I noticed all of this greed many years ago, I also agree with all their music on tacky Television adverts, cashing in while there is huge interest.

Don't worry though,I bet they still will spew out compilation albums/box-sets with childish ltd edition fucking balloons like it's 1971, to be honest I think they are not far off from retiring, so it's all about the money not the fans who have stuck with them for decades making them multi-millionaires and giving them one hell of a lifestyle.

Just look at the crumbs they include on releases compared to many other big artists (it speaks volumes) then you will see how much they truly value us old gits, crumbs = keep the old fans quiet and ridiculous one penny frigging balloons to blow up while doing sodding pirouettes to that ballet for life dvd crap! I wouldn't care but Brian and Roger don't even like ballet so they palm the shite off on us lot. They are so out of touch with fans, this my friends is what fame and wealth and ego does to some Humans. Just see how long the BR movie fans last Brian.

That's not a corporate gig it was for the husbands birthday party and they have various charitable foundations and donate a lot of money to charity every year including animal charities. The wife is a massive Adam fan and he's played for her birthday a few times.

To be honest it looks like a lot of fun. But did remind me that big gigs are now just a sea of mobile devices held aloft.

Watch the gig as it happens. Not through your phone. Odd why people do that!
This place used to be great, but now it is an absolute joke. For serious Queen discussion, please visit http://www.queenforum.net

I thought it was a gig they did for Microsoft during the American tour. A friend of mine was there who said it was tremendous. If it was a charitable thing or someone close I get it, but corporate stuff leaves me cold.

The recent gig in Italy was a private party, they are not the only band to play at these kind of events. As mentioned already it was arranged through people who know band members.

They are far from being the only band to do this, some including U2 ( contact their management and they'll let you know their fee ) will do these type of events (schedule permitting) for a lot of cash.

As far as TV ads go, Queen are not the only band, it's kind of a feature of popularity.

I don't recall The Beatles or Led Zep or Pink Floyd on TV ads (I'm sure they are popular...I think) I could be wrong. (On tv ads) I remember I think Freddie was offered one million dollars to do a TV ad for wine or something like that but refused as it was beneath him etc Brian and Captain Birdseye will probably allow Fat Bottomed Girls to be used in the US for hemorrhoid cream next.

It's a different world now innit. Post-social media times I'm sure they view having DSMN on an advert for Dairy Milk to be the equivalent of getting a track on a big movie soundtrack. Pumped into every home everyday for weeks on end. And when Flash kitchen floor cleaner approach you, you don't say no.

Interesting about the other bands - I know the beatles had a strict rule about it (notably relaxed these days) and I genuinely doubt the other 2 were approached back then. Advert people like the obvious.

Concert ticket prices are high in general. I havent checked but i guess thats how it is nowadays.

Gig tickets don't need to be extortionate. I go see bands like The Wildhearts who work and work for around £25-£30, they are still recording new stuff and are tremendous, Same with The Darkness. Few bands try and charge what Queen are asking without a couple of decent backup bands. We will get 20 mins of background noise.

I'm a huge Queen fan, possibly would argue my collection would rival anyone globally, but this is now taking the pee. UK tour in London and Manchester? I honestly believe they are the biggest UK Arenas hence the most money can be gained. Where is the Newcastle, Birmingham, Glasgow, Belfast dates? That is a UK tour.

Sorry for the bad vibes, just frustrated that this is now so corporate.

My vote for comment of the year so far.
"Queen is the only band in the world that can play so heavily that your nose bleeds, then offer a silk handkerchief to clean up with."

The Wild Hearts are a great band, but they are touring on a different level.

It's possible for an o2 Acadamy level band to tour with a large van or small truck and five or six crew. Taking advantage of in house PA and lights. Or even carrying two or three lighting trusses and a relatively small amount of PA. it all cuts touring cost down

A big arena tour is totally different. At the level Queen tour at, at the moment, they have 24 trucks 8 tour busses plus close to 100 local crew at each venue. I'm not denying they are making a shed load of money but they've also invested hugely into the current production.

Also no matter what level a band tours at, the promoter will usually set ticket prices and percentages are earned by the band and promoter on each ticket. The Wild Hearts could be on a higher percentage than Queen because the overall production costs are less

I remember years ago Roger (and Elton) bitching about Madonna and the price of her tickets etc and now RT is doing the same thing hypocrite or jealous? Who remembers Kid Rock charging $20 a ticket? just proves it can be done.
