Sex Pistols, a fake band totally created by a record company to fool dumb punks into thinking they've got something truly anti-establishment to rally behind. And, apparently there were plenty of sufficiently dumb punks, because this punk boyband made it. They could barely play, and all they had to contribute were mindless rage, violence and radical right wing views.
And then Holly sneers that if you don't like these idiots, you should hop over to dumb pop-music. Ever heard of The Clash? The Ramones? New York Dolls? Iggy Pop? There's plenty of good punk to be found, just not with the Sex Pistols. They utterly suck, and it's a genuine shame that the asshole John Lydon lives while Joe Strummer is dead.[/QUOTE]

"There's plenty of good punk to be found, just not with the Sex Pistols. "
I didn't say there wasn't, so that's a straw man argument. Although personally I think The Clash were a bunch of posers and The Ramones only ever wrote about 5 good songs. As for John, he's a smart guy who sadly in his older years has become a bit of a parody of himself, but that doesn't mean he isn't a punk legend.
And as for sneering, when we're talking about punk that's a good attitude to have.

I'm going to agree with Holly here. The Sex Pistols were an artificial creation just as much as, say, Queen or Bowie were. Different animals sure, but all knew that to survive a certain 'character' had to be created that would appeal to the masses.
Created by a record label? Which one? The 2 who dropped them after one single each, or the one that picked up the hollow corpse to release their only album?
The difference of course is that it took the Pistols perhaps 18 months from kick off to spectacular implosion. Sadly their reputation was totally ruined by the same people who actually made it all possible. That they couldn't play is a nonsense too. And Rotten's voice while I accept is an acquired taste encapsulates the roar every man should feel at least once in his life.

Fucking hell that's weird. As I typed that BBC4 just mentioned the Sid Vicious / Queen story.

The Pistols were not created by a record company, nor by Malcolm McLaren - what a load of tosh! Never Mind The Bollocks is a classic album and were extremely influential.

'nor by Malcolm McLaren'
Nope.
They would have happened without him ;-)
(It is a classic album though... the same as Britney Spears or the Spice Girls) One of those ones that people will talk about....

Such a great beginning, and such a horrible ending. Created by a record company? Which one? "They could barely play"? Are you deaf? Radical right wing views? Huh? Idiots? Have you ever seen / read any interview with somebody else than Sid? The Clash? Brilliant first album, 99% of later stuff sucks. Plus funny you don't mind their left wing views, but you mention "radical right wing views" (whatever it is). The Ramones? The first 2-3 albums are brilliant, and they were amazing live, but most of their music sucks, which make sense since they had 1 good song writer. New York Dolls? They suck. Iggy Pop? Great musician, great performer, not enough good songs and completely insane. The last sentence is just sad. Maybe you should re-think your opinions, I would never say or write write something so awful about anybody
