Wow - these two surprised me.
I always thought Deacon at least co-write DTSH, and never would've thought he was in on The Hitman instead.

^Oooh, I thought the exact same thing.

John may have had something else in mind lyrically at first. Then the song evolved and the working title no longer reflected the song's meaning. Remember, AOBTD started as a song about cowboys.[/QUOTE]
Sure, but if you evolve the lyrics so much that it hardly resembles the original idea, is it still the same song? An early version might be an almost entirely different beast. A ship of Theseus case, maybe.

My respect for anyone who mentions this phenomenon in accurate context amplifies considerably. Well played.

and more to the point: how many people googled it?
would the same rule apply perfectly to existence of The Drifters? One band, 60+ members.
two British sitcoms (both starring David Jason) actually used the same "Theseus' Ship" joke:

Maybe there is an entirely different song out there. Maybe it didn't evolve into IOSD. Maybe it did. Maybe Freddie got a hold of it and changed it enough that the title had to be changed. I don't know. Originally, I made the statement because both IYCBT and DSK were both on the track listings and IOSD wasn't.
