I'm obviously aware of it's age...but how many times has Holly2003 given it a FULL play? 2 or 3 I'm guessing. Have to say, looked in on this site loads times before posting. My other bands are (we've all loads)...Suede and REM. Their forums have pretty much zero insults. Ok, every band has the occasional weak album. The whole reason I defended Hot Space....no...the MAJESTIC Hot Space....is because it receives no love. I'm a huge Curb your enthusiasm fan. Larry David, what a genius. And he'd say about Queen 2 and Hot Space....pretty pretty pretty pretty good...
I didn't insult you, I offered an opinion on Queen's weakest album. Weak sales, poor fan and even band reaction all support my view. If you want uncritical fan worship I would suggest you don't come here. Or at least, if you do post here don't offer an opinion and then get pissy when someone disagrees with you.

Dancer: very good
Staying Power: very good/GREAT live
Put Out the Fire: Very good to awesome
Under Pressure: Classic
Las Palabras De Amor: Awesome
Back Chat: Very good
Action This Day: Very good
Life Is Real: ok
Cool Cat: Crap
Body Language: meh
Calling All Girls: ok

I can think of Queen albums with much more crap songs and less good ones than HS. Very good album

Holly2003...weakest album and sales? I beg to differ...that is surely Flash Gordon soundtrack. And as for getting pissy, takes a lot more than your post to annoy me. It's quite hilarious in fact you think so. Can't these sites just be normal? I've met Queen fans in pubs who say don't go near the forums. You'll always have someone know better than you. Even when it's your fave song/album etc. You're bound to respond...you can't help it...I won't...

I said weak sales, not weakest. Just correcting your mistake. You're welcome.

for someone who loves Freddie / hates Brian - you took aim and missed (badly) with your (lack of in-depth) analysis:

Brian
Las Palabras De Amor: Awesome
Put Out the Fire: Very good to awesome
Dancer: very good

Freddie
Staying Power: very good/GREAT live
Life Is Real: ok
Cool Cat: Crap
Body Language: meh

closet Brian fan, perhaps?
also, you've illustrated perfectly the point people have been trying to make to you trolls for years:
Freddie's early-mid 80's output was the poor product of a clubbing hedonist, too lazy to work at his art.

I would listen to The Cosmos Rocks before I would listen to Hot Space. Hot Space and Flash Gordon are my least favorite Queen albums.
Hot Space is great it was my first Queen album - and you are an idiot (but we knew that b4)
Always fun to pop in here and read what this clown is saying.

Weckwerth, if that was the first Queen album you bought, and you think it's great, fuck knows what shit you must have been into at the time.

I like the album, but I don't think it's a great album. It's more adventuress than what followed, but not only is not on the same page, it's not in the same book as what they'd recorded through the 70's.

Re all the non fans of Hot Space. I just see beauty in disliked albums. Ask any REM fan their least fave, it's usually Monster or Up. I happen to think they're both great albums. At the end of the day, no album is an absolute belter from first track to last. Say an album has 10 tracks, it's impossible for EVERY fan to love EVERY track...having said that...Suede's Dog man star I've listened to as much as ANATO. Both an absolute masterpiece. However, both have tracks 9/10 rather than 10/10. Of course, if any Beatles fan were to wander into here, they'd beg to differ. It's the age old pub argument that really gets me...most say Beatles, Stones then Queen best of British. Stones for me are just one dimensional. Rock n roll. How many bands would have taken the utter gamble Queen did with Hot Space?

bands take utter gambles all of the time: - the risk of taking a sharp change of style is nothing new, and neither is (relative) failure that comes with it.
Deep Purple: Come Taste The Band
David Bowie: Tin Machine
Led Zep: III
Chicago: Hot Streets

difference is - there are bands who make radical departures and are successful - because their diversion wasn't a mistake:
Beatles: Sgt Pepper
Pink Floyd: The Wall
ELO: Discovery
Bee Gees: Spirits Having Flown
David Bowie: Let's Dance

I like the Roger contributions to this album, especially Calling All Girls.

Calling all girls great. Action this day good rocker. Can't think if it's that track or Staying power on the Milton Keynes dvd where bottle comes flying past poor Deacon?
Queen2thebest wrote:Brenski...what 'really isn't?'
ATD is not a good rocker - by any rock fan's standards.
Queen2thebest wrote:Brenski...Because we don't agree with you...?
who exactly is this "we" you speak of? could it be YOU and your seven other personality disorders? i think you'll find the majority of Queen fans don't think HS is a good album.

Original poster, it looks like you haven't really divided opinion and this topic is far more boring than you might think. It has been done to death here (Hot Space - great or bad). Just like on previous occasions, there are quite a few people who actually like some of the songs on Hot Space, I am one of them. Among these pretty good tracks, I'd name UP, Cool Cat, Las Palabras, Dancer and Put Out the Fire. Staying Power is also pretty good live.
