How mad is this, It only seems like yesterday that our mate died! Bloody Hell! For Queen fans that came in much later it might not have as much significance, but to me, I remember the night he died, I was watching the news with my mum and dad and we all burst out crying! I was only 13! Mad! And I got the monday off school! Much to the amusement of my class mates cos they all took the piss for the next few months!

They werent taking the piss in April though when Id brought my ticket for the Freddie Tribute and I was gonna watch Queen, GNR and Tallica :))

On my website is a RealMedia clip of Freddie's death reported on MTV's The Week In Rock here in the US. I hope it still works...I haven't played it for awhile.

When I go home for Christmas I will be getting the original tape to make a higher-quality mpeg.

I kept playing it over and over after I recorded it. The part at the end when he looks up and they freeze the video kept making me cry, I guess because it seemed so final. I'm sure most people are used to seeing general "career-retrospective" montages on TV news when someone dies, so seeing him in one was really strange.

The reason he meant so much to me was because I was growing up gay in the US, and he was the only person I saw on TV who could be gay and cool at the same time. I didn't actually know he was gay, but knew how flamboyant he was on stage...and I guess the message I got was: If you are rich and/or famous and/or popular enough, there is a chance you can act the way you want and nobody will care. Of course that's a really lousy message for a young person, but that was the world we lived in and it was all the hope I had.

So I guess if it wasn't for him, I really don't know if I'd be around today. I was at least in the same building as him when I saw Queen at age 7 (as the story on my site details), but I guess when he died I felt guilty that I'd never get the chance to see him again and thank him.

Me too was leaving for school when I heard the news, could not believe it, then my classmates confirmed it...too sad...just the day before I saw a big tv special announcing Freddie's illness, though I suspected it since the Slightly mad video..

Today I'm listening to Queen all morning! Rest in peace Freddie

I was 6 when Freddie died... so I didn't see any news or anything like that. I wish I had. Damn it's a sad day. :(
