Don't be ridiculous. Most people do nothing for anyone except themselves. If Bono was like this, you'd be gurning about it. But he's not, and you still whine. Regarding his apartment, the idea that someone who is rich must give ALL his money to charity or not do anything at all is moronic. This kind of non-thinking is imo motivated by guilt.

Besides, anyone who shouts "Fuck the revolution" to a bunch of plastic paddys is all right by me.

What opened Elton's eyes to the whole AIDS issue was a whole bunch of things.
Elton had a lot of gay ex-lovers and friends (including Freddie) who were victims of AIDS. The last straw was when Elton found about Ryan White, and not only he decided to give a big part of his fortune to AIDS charities but he decided to check himself into rehab and finally overcome his addiction to cocaine.
I think Elton once mentioned that he was extremely lucky of not having AIDS, and perhaps it should have been him the one who should be dead and not Ryan White.

Liz Taylor was an intimate friend of Rock Hudson and she also had a couple of gay friends who were AIDS victims.

I doubt that after being personally affected by AIDS, they'd be looking for self promotion.

Still, I really like U2. I used to be a bit peeved with the whole messiah like figure, but I don't care about it anymore. He seems to be genuinely interested in worldly issues. Bono can do what he wants, we aren't anyone to tell him what to do. He's rich after all ;) :P

I was actually mentioning the above 'stars' in connection with AIDS charities or charities of their ilk I was talking generally.

As a rule of thumb people don't do owt for nowt especially when they're in the fame game. Personally the volunteers who give up their time for 'Meals on Wheels' deserve more respect.

It was Elton himself the one who said that (or so I heard). I don't know for sure if he actually did say it.
All I know for sure is that Elton was absolutely devastated by seeing Ryan battle with AIDS, and that gave his life a 180 degree turn.

And nope... Elton and Freddie weren't lovers... if you see my post again you will see that I mentioned Freddie next to "friends".

He was simply saying that Elton's reaction from being lucky meant that he too (Elton) thought that he should've died from AIDs.
Again, you've misunderstood when he was talking about lovers and friends. Notice how he mentioned Freddie after the word, friends!

Please be careful when reading someone's post. Take time to fully understand what is being said.

See sometimes you read something in the heat of the moment, and you might misunderstand some things, and read things differently. That was the mistake that I made, that's all. :)

This is what is funny about the internet, words are completetly arbitrary, and some might misunderstand them.
It's a common human error. To err is human and all that bollocks. Otherwise send me to be hanged until I cheer up ;)

Like my last post, I apoligised. I made a mistake. AIDS is a touchy subject for me, so I can get easily heated, not that I'm menopausal or anything. In fact, I'm still quite young. :-D

Elton has done a lot of noble things for the AIDS cause, and I'm happy that he really means what he does and says.
