Just came across this interesting list on Amazon...it's someone's Top 30 progressive rock albums, and I was surprised that Queen II is #1:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/guides/guide-display/-/5F7DC82SIS5R/qid=1072987919/sr=18-1/ref=sr_18_1/002-1071869-9266420

IMHO he has such good taste in prog albums, so it's nice Queen II is being recognized by prog fans as part of that genre.

(In college a few years ago I listened to "Thick As A Brick" in my Walkman daily for two years. :)

I think their early albums do have a strong following there. My stepdad was a prog rock fan.. stuff like ELP, Tull, Rick Wakeman(?), and he had all the early Queen stuff.

I just wonder what this guy means by:

"You don't come by (people) like Freddie Mercury, musicians like Brian May, Roger Taylor, John Deacon, this album, and bands like Queen very often!"

Freddie is just a (people) and the others are musicians?

Its No1 because it is well deserved, Queen II was and still is the very best of Queen,s music, writing, vocals, harmonizing and imagination, of course everyone has their own favourites but, Queen II is, in my opinion, the best album ever made by anybody.

I have been on a Queen2 kick the past couple of days. It's the only cd I've been playing in the car. I will never get tired of it. :)

Queen II is IMO a prog-rock album. And probably my favourite album ever. Can't wait for it to be released on DVD-A!!!

I remember when Queen II came out. I thought the cover was very striking, and opening the gatefold was even better! After putting it on the turntable, I was blown away and still am whenever I listen to it. I hear a lot of influences too but am most influenced by the clarity of Freddie's voice and the big step the band took after Queen I. Hard to believe that album is thirty years old this year....

When I first listened 'Black Queen' I was stunned. It was sooooooo great. Like from 1 to 10 I give it a 20. And the best part is ... each time I listen to it I like it more :)
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.

I've had Queen II playing in my car the last 3 or 4 months. It's a fantastic album!

why the need for categorisation? just enjoy it for what it is - great music. as a certain Andrew Partridge once wrote....

In a milk bar and feeling lost
Drinking sodas as cold as frost
Someone leans in m direction
Quizzing on my juke-box selection
What do you call that noise
That you put on?

THIS IS POP
Yeah Yeah

This is!

On a walkway and moving fast
All I get is transistor blast
Someone leans in my direction
Quizzing on my station selection
What do you call that noise
That you put on?

THIS IS POP
Yeah yeah

This is!

We come the wrong way
We come the long way
We play the songs much too loud

THIS IS POP
Yeah yeah

Queen II is a truly stunning album and I urge you all to listen to it this instant.

Second only to 'A Day At The Races' in my book.*

It is lots of fun trying to sing March Of The Black Queen in the car and having other people stare :)

Queen II seems to be the only CD I can not find at any store, anywhere which is a shame seeing as I like Ogre Battle, Seven Seas of Rhye and most of what I have heard off of Queen II.

Me: Excuse me, I'm told that you have a Queen II CD sale on, can I buy a copy?
Counter guy: What Queen II?
Roger: Can I go to lunch now?
Brian: NO! NO! *bashes Roger to death*
Me: Suzuki!
