"Why does everybody want all this extra material on the 2nd disk?!! Why not another concert? :) Actually, I think they should release dvd boxes with Queen concerts, like: 74-76 (Rainbow, Hammersmith, Hyde Park, and some rare concerts we have never seen), 77-79 (Earls Court, Houston, Hammersmith, and more rare ones), 80-82 (This box will be the huge one, because in '82 all european tour concerts were prof. filmed, so they have a lot of rare material to put here... And of course I want to see Buenos Aires, Sao Paolo and Milton Keynes here too!), 84-85 (Uncut versions of both nights in Rio, uncut version of Japan concert, Live Aid, and more rare ones), 86-92 (Uncut Wembley first night, uncut Budapest, Knebworth Park, Freddie's last live performances, and the songs that were cut on the Freddie Tribute VHS and DVD, and maybe uncut Brian Brixton Academy...) So, what do you think? :)"
...err, maybe you should wake up?! ;-)

Lisa, Lisa, Lisa... Do you know how much they paid to get those things restored?? Hundreds of thousands into MILLIONS. The reason those movies were restored was because they are very precious relics of the 20th century. Someone made sure they didn't disappear.
I believe that Queen would never go that far for a simple concert release. Is it worth that much!? And to be honest, the footage could be cleaned up quite well. But it'll never look half as good as something like the WWRY dvd. If the detail from the source picture isn't there (i.e. faces on stage), you can't bring those back. I hate to use the, "can't polish a turd" technique, but the same principal is true.
Peace,
Adam.

A box set spanning several years makes more sense and would be much more marketable than the odd 'obscure' release like Earls Court or Houstan.

I'm sure Brian and Roger could scrape together a few quid for that! (LOL)
The silent films in question were restored because they were rapidly disintegrating (silver nitrate film stock simply crumbled into dust even when stored properly). Many, many films were lost because the technology wasn't there then. But not thay any of the Queen concert films are THAT old -- they can be fixed and turned into something that could turn a tidy profit for QP! (A write-in campaign could be the start of something big -- I might try contacting Brian to see if something like that could be possible!)

Does anyone know whether professional STEREO audio exists for Milton Keynes? I ask because 'Staying Power' on GVHII is mono.

I think a golden opportunity was missed when the Live Aid performance was not included on the Live At Wembley dvd. That would have been perfect. The Live Aid performance was only twenty minutes; it would have fit perfectly on the second disc as a record of Queen's previous appearance at Wembley. Anyway...
I have suggested this before on this site, Queenonline, and to Brian's site; why not a small imprint label for special releases that may not appeal to the general public like the "Follow That Dream" imprint that BMG set up for Elvis Presley releases? They sell cds of sessions from various periods in his career with alternate versions, and soundboard recordings of concerts from the 70's. These albums may not appeal to the casual fan who is mainly interested in the greatest hits, but they are gold to the hardcore fan. Granted, these may not appeal to those who have completely gone over to MP3's, but to those of us who are still kickin' it old school with cds, it is an opportunity to own some rare tracks that are truly limited in release. Why not Queen? Do not tell me they are hording stuff for the carrot-on-a-stick boxed sets that are always just a "few months" from release. (And do not think those will be $$$$!) Elvis Presley Enterprises sells their collectors cds as well as myriad boxed sets.

I know that in februari the 46664 concert wil be released on DVD. Brain and Roger did a great job there. But indeed, it's time to release some old stuff too.
"Why does everybody want all this extra material on the 2nd disk?!! Why not another concert?"
I must say, I like that extra material. Maybe a 3th disk??

"If i remember correctly they wanted to release Earls Court a few years ago, but they stopped that project. And i don't think it will be released on dvd, since there were a lot of problems with the lights and the sound during the show."
And what about the second night at Earls Court? Killer Queen on Rare Live is crisp quality, and I'm hoping they've got that entire show safely stored in the vaults.
"Does anyone know whether professional STEREO audio exists for Milton Keynes? I ask because 'Staying Power' on GVHII is mono."
I have a true stereo soundboard recording of the first 15 minutes of the show; Flash intro, The Hero, WWRY fast, Play The Game, and Staying Power. It has the same running time of the video, but that was broadcast in mono sound back in 1983. I therefore have no clue where these tracks of mine came from.
Since the version of Staying Power on the GVH2 DVD has mono sound, I can only conclude that they used the MTV source for the release. Because of this, I then conclude that Queen does not have the entire video in their archives, nor do they even have a stereo audio recording. If they did, then certainly they would have used the stereo source for this track on GVH2.
If that's not true, then it was sheer stupidity on their part. In this digital age of 5.1 sound, you absolutely should not be releasing something in mono sound. I don't think Milton Keynes could be released in its entirety anyway, because Brian's patch cord fell out of guitar during his big solo! I don't think they would want to release something like that. But if they do, I'd love to finally see this moment.
Right now, I'm severely doubting there are stereo recordings of Hammersmith 79, Earls Court 77 (both nights), and Houston 77. Every documentary or official release that features a song or two from these shows has the songs in mono sound. However, since Queen has no problem with releasing things on DVD with mono sound, this can very much widen the list of things that may be released on DVD, and can include these aforementioned shows.
That is just in terms of audio, though. From what I've seen, the videos of the first night at Earls Court and Houston 77 have parts that are very dark, and could never be released. I'm talking about In The Lap Of The Gods from EC and My Melancholy Blues from Houston.
The bootleg with 3 tracks from Rainbow 74 has stereo sound, but the vocal overdubs are still there. I really wonder if the unharmed soundboard recording is stashed away.
I think the Rio 1-12-85 concert is the best candidate for the next official release. Budapest and Knebworth have almost identical tracklistings to Wembley, and Montreal 81 is out of the question. The definitive version has already been released.

What about the concerts from Japan and Australia?

They told me they planned six DVD's. Original idea was Greatest Video Hits, Hits II and Wembley for mass market plus 3 concert DVD's for fans, that's what I understood. But if GH3 is coming out, maybe it means there will be less concert DVD's.
YourValentine · Member since
When you add the Freddie Tribute, it only leaves one more concert DVD.

I'm not afraid whe're not getting out DVD's. It will take some time but it will come.
