Of course this was done on purpose. I don't buy the "wardrobe malfunction" malarkey. It takes a strong hand to rip off a piece of cloth if it was accidental.
Look at it this way, this "accident" as far as I see it was a publicity stunt designed to shock, and horrorise the "puritanical" American society. I saw the half show, and it was in very poor taste overall. I think its Justin one upping Britney after the infamous (dont see the big deal) lesbian kiss with Madonna last year.
Also Janet's new album is comming out, so this publicity stunt will certainly boost sales.
I was watching CNN this morning, and the FCC is already launching an investigation on this boob show.
