KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (AP) -- Less than a week after filing a class-action lawsuit because of her outrage over Janet Jackson's Super Bowl stunt, Terri Carlin believes she's made her point.

The Knoxville banker is withdrawing the suit filed last Wednesday in U.S. District Court against Jackson and Justin Timberlake, along with MTV, CBS and their parent company, Viacom.

The lawsuit had sought billions of dollars in compensatory and punitive damages.

Carlin alleged that she and others who watched the show during the Super Bowl were injured by the performers' lewd actions when Timberlake tore off part of Jackson's costume, exposing her right breast.

The notice of dismissal filed in federal court says Carlin wants to see if "remedial measures" announced by federal regulators and the companies involved succeed in preventing similar stunts.

Carlin and attorney Wayne A. Ritchie II, who filed the lawsuit on behalf of Carlin and has represented her for free, have received phone calls and mail from hundreds of supportive parents from across the country who wanted to be included in the suit, the notice states.

In the lawsuit filed on behalf of "all Americans," Carlin charged that Jackson's exposure and "sexually explicit conduct" by other performers during the halftime show injured viewers.

Jackson apologized for the incident, saying a red lace garment was supposed to remain over her breast when an outer garment was ripped away.

It's a disgrace. I think that the way people have reacted to this fucking nothing stunt should make us all sit back and just look at ourselves for a bit.

What ACTUALLY happened? Nothing. Ok, it was a dance routine that went wrong, no "sexier" or "dirtier" than any other routine really, and Jackson's nipple wasn't even on show, so what the American public actually saw was a bit of fat with some skin over the top. If you want revealing, why has nobody censored the green dress that Jenifer Lopez wore to the Grammys? Why did nobody slap a ban on Christina Aguilera or Lil Kim, or Marilyn Manson's girlfriend for their various outfits?

I've heard somebody say that this was "violence towards women and shouldn't be tolerated under any circumstances-Timberlake is sick"-What are they smoking? Jackson has clearly embroiled Timberlake in a publicity stunt, which both of them should have known better than to involve themselves in. It wasn't violent, it wasn't degrading, it wasn't even explicit. All it was was a fuck up that shouldn't have happened.

How can you justify a lawsuit against it? Fair enough, this is a country in which a woman gets awarded $10 million because a cup of coffee doesn't point out that the contents are hot and so burns herself. Americans-what is wrong with your people? I had such a nice time in America and met so many great people-then I hear something like this...bringing a lawsuit is not for the good of the whole country, because everyone outside America, and no doubt a good few inside America, reads the story and thinks "What a load of bollocks, are they all tossers?" No country wants people thinking that about them (except maybe France) and yet what choice do we have?

People need to get out of their shells a bit more. This is the 21st century now, and this sort of thing just shouldn't be shocking to sensible people. There are wars going on, there are innocent people dying, there is an increase in heroin trade, and people are actually giving a shit that Janet Jackson flashed a bit of her boob for 2 seconds during a song? Why? Why would that make any difference to anything?

My advice to the people who think this is unholy and indecent-learn to love the skin you're in and you won't care when other people do it. Get your priorities straight, and laugh at it like the rest of us did.

Phew. Off soapbox for now.

Exactly. And what about the sexual innuendo and nature of many of the advertisements during the game? I guess thats okay. I don't condone what Janet Jackson did, not at all. It was in very poor taste. But she did it, its over, she apologised. People are making an entirely too big a deal out of it.

Excellent post, Freddie-B.

Thank you Janet, appreciate it. I just don't like the double standards of it all.
