hiii please...don't call it "marriage" this word has to be used for ethero-unions. "Civil union" should be the name for gays couples according to me. personally i'm strongly against adoptions for gays couples.

As for adoptions, your point of view really just shows that the actual problem is not how well two homosexuals can take care of the child, but the bullying the child would face in school. That just goes to show what kind of opinions many heterosexual parents, and society as a whole, teach their children. Sexual education in schools should come through much earlier, at least when it comes to tolerating the different sexualities. As it is today, children are not aware of homosexuals existing, they are taught no tolerance, and what they in the end hear, comes from their friends (who got it from a homophobic parent or a TV show of some kind). The intoleranse forms in their heads years before a nervous teacher stands in front of class and mumbles "and then... Then there's something called *mumble, cough* homosexuals...".
Once we have better sexual education in schools and better teaching of tolerance, homosexuals adopting children will be no problem. I myself know a guy who has two lesbian mothers raising him, and he never faced any bullying because of it.

considering the fact that the institution of marriage is a joke these days--what is the big deal any way---
ewwwwwwwwww letting gays marry is a threat to it?? hmmm seems that institution was corrupted long ago before us queers came around.... its only a threat to homophobic right wing zealots and people who literally have no concept of what the real truth of the matter is....
its all about legal rights dear breeders--
we have none--when it comes to our partners- our wills- our insurance policies-our jobs and benefits--medical coverages and so on...
these 'privlieges' are covered to people who are legally 'married' and do not extend to civil unions or partnerships--those people are shit out of luck-- be they straight or gay
you set the rules and laws up--- you made the bed--its time to lay in it...
If i get sick-- the hospital can stop ray from even entering the room--as he is not considered 'family' or a legitimate partner
If i die-- though my will states he gets it all-- one person objects-- he can end up with nothing.... why?? because he is not recognized legally as my partner
with 401's and 403b's- if the holding company does not recognize the legitimacy of someone they can over ride the beneficiary requests of a person....
and tax wise?? utter nightmare if holders of joint property
with children and adoption
~Silje~ my dear what a thoughtful, insightful and true post--- kudos to you for hitting the nail on the head--
and with that i bid adieu.....

Silje and IE your posts were excellent.
Gays and Lesbians are people too (doh! What a cliché thing to say! In all seriousness I meant it :) ) Whether you approve or disapprove in their lifestyle, they are part of this society. Therefore, they should have the rights that every heterosexual has. This whole matter about same sex marriage is not about morality, it is about human, and constitutional rights.
I've known gay couples with adopted, and, even children of their own (from previous marriage or from artificial insemination) who are amazing parents.
It is awful to think that if a child is raised by a gay or lesbian couple, the child is going to be a homosexual. That is just ridiculous.
Tolerance should be taught not only in school, but the parents should be the ones that instill(sp)that one should respect other people's decisions and lifestyles. Parents are the ones that brought their children into this world, and it is their job of teaching it first and foremost, before entering the classroom.

I want a constitutional ammendment, like GDumbya wants. I want a billion plus to be spent to teach people about marriage.
I want the traditional marriage to stay as is. Otherwise, we'd get a mockery of an institution, which would diminish the marriages that Wacko and Liza and Brittany and Liz and Zsa Zsa and so on have experienced.
Marriage is for procreation, per GW. Damn those who are sterile, over 50, or use contraceptives. Heathens!
Guess I just argued the other side.
After all these years of an increasing tolerance and understanding and 'equal rights', we get a 'compassionate conservative' to rekindle the sparks of hate.
Hypocrite. He's against affirmative action, yet he was admitted into Yale because they allow a certain amount of students to enroll because of the color 'green'.
What is worse now is what is taking place in Ohio, with the removal of benefits for 'partners'. That's a travesty, as we move back to stone age attitudes.

Having gay parents will not make you gay. What a dumb suggestion! Where did all those gay people come from? hetero parents ,of course. Do you honestly think every gay person had a gay parent? That is stupid.
gay people are like everyone else: some are good parents, some are not.
Prejudice is the real crime here. Gay people are not a threat to your marriage, your vlaues, your children. THEY ARE PEOPLE. people whose partnerships have little or no legal standing. At Johns Hopkins not long ago they refused a gay man 's partner access to his dying mate. When it was finally resolved it was too late.Does that make us all feel so much safer and promote high ethical values?
A lot of my best friends are gay, and

Will Bush get reelected as a savior to morality by spouting indignation at gay marriage and Janet Jackson?
I am not looking forward to next November ... Any chance that Dark or Mahler can run as independents so as to improve the presidential candidate slate?
