Why is the sound so crap on live killers ?

Has anyone heard live killers ? it sounds like a bootleg, for an official realise the sound should be a lot better.

In some places it's better than others, I think it shows more cause it's a compilation of different shows so you capture the acoustics from each of the venues. It's a good representation of Queen live at that point, although there are much better performances, plus there are some songs from that era not on the disc (Somebody To Love, etc). Which version of LK is this? The 1994 EMI remaster or the Japanese 2001 remaster? The Japanese one is supposedly very good. I personally prefer LK to Wembley, it captures the rock essence of Queen much more (plus Freddie on piano more, no synths, etc).

I have the 1994 EMI version do you know if the 2003 version is any better ?

I think LK is a great live album. I fall under the category of liking Queen's earlier shows better than the '84 - '86 tours. I prefer Freddie's younger voice, and the absence of over-the-top synths etc...

I wonder how much of LK was actually 'tweaked' in production....

Live recordings are generally crap to begin with. All those jackasses screaming between and during songs. It might be exciting and fun if you're there, or if you _were_ there, to relive memories, but I recommend avoiding the live CDs.

If you must experience Queen live, stick with the videos/DVDs. At least then you have something visual to make up for the sound.

I believe the more recent version sounds better, although I haven't heard it so don't quote me on that. I seem to remember there being some debate on this a while back.

The crowd is what makes the show on Live Killers IMHO...best live album ever! Everyone on it just sounds so excited to be there.

did they record all show´s from this tour?

I really don't agree... It's a matter of opinion. I enjoy listening to shows very much, obviously the more quality they are the more enjoyable they are.

Saying they're crap probably indicates you haven't heard the really good ones... Again, it's a matter of opinion, some people just don't like any live show.

Yeah the screaming is a bit off putting and makes me sad and angry cos I'm not there!!!
But I do love to hear Freddie talking and warming up the crowd in between. He makes me laugh and I love his voice.

Live killa rocks if ya put it next to a mega watt amp we will rock you, Boh rap, and love of my love sounds way clearer and betta than those on Wembley, plus you also have a heart massage.... yes peeps I like ma music woofingly loud, dem sub-woofers is a great invention!

The only thing that i don't like on the live killers album is that it has so much bass!

Man bass and drums is the foundation of all good songs I think,

I hate racket rock, where its all about the guitars.

I think that Brian or Roger said that they "cleaned up" the sound on "Live Killers" with some studio overdubs. If so, how bad was the sound to begin with? It sounds like the concerts were recorded with two mikes hanging from the ceiling of whatever venue they played in. Also, the clarity of compact disc may be part of the problem. The recording probably did not sound as bad on vinyl when it first came out and there was nothing newer (Wembley) to compare it to.
