What do you think about Freddie's 'girlfriend' Mary Austin?
I think she's nice!!! :-)

P.S : in the 70's she was really beautiful with that long hair!!!!!

I think she seems okay. I go by the general thought of "If Freddie thought she was great, then she must be" regardless of what she did after he died.. people do strange things in grief.

It's sorta like the Yoko Ono thing. John loved her, so I give her some credit for being a somewhat decent person because I know John wasn't stupid. She's still loads of fun to make fun of though :)

To be fair, I think Mary has put the past behind her and is moving on in her life. As we all know she went through a difficult time following Freddie's death and grief made her do a lot of things she is no doubt ashamed of.
After the police found the drugs and her kids were taken into care, Mary did a lot of soul searching and put her house back in order. Of course she still has the odd lapse of judgement. With hindsight she probably regrets marching at that National Front rally. This has all been discussed before and I think it's time to move on and concentrate on the positive things she has done for Queen fans. I for one am looking forward to the Garden Lodge open day next month.

Can you explain further about the drugs found, kids taken into care, and the rally that you spoke about? I never heard of any of them (I live in the USA). Thanks.

No offence to any one, but for some reson I can't stand the woman, I don't know why...

What kind of drugs were found at her home? How long were the kids taken from her? When did this happen?? Any links to articles about this? Thanks.

This whole shameful episode occured in 1992, just about the time of the Live Aid Concert. Friends of Mary had become concerned about her erratic behaviour and after trying to contact her for several days they called the police. Mary was found face down in the fish pond and taken to hospital. They found traces of sodium dodecehedron, more commonly known as Eskimo's pyjamas in her blood and a further search of Garden Lodge turned up thousands of pounds of the drug.
She was arrested and taken to Dock Green police station but was later released on bail. She avoided a custodial sentence by pleading guilty to all charges and seeking rehabilitation but her children were taken into care. I'm not sure how long they were in care but it is likely to be anywhere between two weeks and a fortnight.
Things seemed to be on the up for Mary for a while then she started going out with the far right wing journalist Garry Bushell and was spotted at a National Front rally.
As everyone knows Garry Bushell was murdered by yardies in 1997 and hopefully Mary has put all that nonsense behind her.
It's best not to dwell on the past too much and allow Mary the privacy she needs to get over things.

Incidently, Mary is holding the first Garden Lodge open day on April 1st in which fans will be allowed to tour Freddie's home. I will be going and if you get the chance you should come along too.

I already got a trip planned to see Garden Lodge... Can't wait to see Freddie's livingroom... I wonder if all the art is still there..... Looking forward to meet you IRL Fatty! :)
