Some films listed that I'm a fan of...

- Donnie Darko
- Leon: The Professional
- This Is Spinal

Films not listed but that I consider are cult films and I'm a fan of...

- The Shawshank Redemption
- American History X
- The Green Mile

Now there are those films that have devoted fans, but the number of fans is far bigger than those from other cult films.

Star Wars
Lord Of The Rings
Star Trek

Also big cult films that weren't included on that list...

The Godfather trilogy
Scarface
Goodfellas
Cheech and Chong

You know...

I haven't yet to see Donnie Darko. Is it really a good film? Everybody raves about it. I read the synopsis at wikipedia, and it looks like a dumb plot LOL

I'll be honest here. I was never a fan of Star Wars. I tried to like the films, but they never caught on to me. The same goes for Star Trek. I liked the series, but I need to see the films again.

LOTR? Yeah they are good, but not much of a fan. I liked the books more, same goes for Harry Potter.

American History X was a very disturbing film, but it is excellent.

Scarface I liked. It is surely a very popular film with the rap crowd. If you've seen Cribs you'd know. :P

Cheech and Chong! They are hilarious! Hehehe Esp. Up in Smoke.

I'll add other films

Yellowbeard
History of the World Part 1
Priscilla, Queen of the Dessert.
Spaceballs lol

There's a lot more of cult films than those listed in there.

You won't regret watching Donnie Darko, it's an excellent film. It might be a little weird and it makes you wonder a lot of things at the end, but that's what makes it so good.

I don't agree with many of Wikipedia's choices but it becomes a bit difficult to decide exactly what is a cult film.

-Beautiful Thing
-Billy Elliot
-Chuck & Buck
-Donnie Darko
-Glengarry GlenRoss
-Happiness
-L.I.E.
-Muriel's Wedding
-Ratcatcher
-Rushmore
-Say Anything

Are a few from my list of 27 :-P I also love John Hughes films but they seem too popular to me to be considered 'cult'.

My fave "cult" film is "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls". For those of you who also enjoy this film, it is tentatively scheduled to be released on dvd by Criterion later this year. I think a "cult" film is one that was not a great success upon first theatrical release, but gained a following upon re-release or release on home video. Some of my others are:

Myra Breckinridge

Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia

Two Lane Blacktop

Runaway Train

Naked Lunch

Tombstone (with Kurt Russell)

Evil Dead
Evil Dead II
Army Of Darkness (Evil Dead III)
Rocky Horror
Spinal Tap
Leon
The Wall
Kevin Smith's "Jersey Trilogy" (consisting of four movies... LOL!)

I'll post more later when I can think straight.

Ah, yes, the glory of Sam Peckinpah. He has a number of movies that could qualify as "cult" films; "Straw Dogs", "Convoy", "Ride the High Country", "Cable Hogue"...

And Warren Oates could contribute; "Cockfighter", "Drum", "Dillinger", "White Dawn", and "China 9, Liberty 37"
