Ten Most Influentional Rock Bands Of All Time????

I wish Queen were chosen to be on here but I agree with about 7 of the ten on here.

You gotta be fuckin' kidding me for putting those 2 bands in there. There are a couple that should be perhaps dropped from the list though, but those 2 are a joke.

To me the list should go as this (NOTE: Not as best bands ever, but as the most influential)

1. The Beatles
3. Led Zeppelin
4. The Jimmy Hendrix Experience
5. Queen
6. Pink Floyd
7. The Doors
8. Metallica
9. U2
10. Nirvana

You got to be kidding me...where's Queen? Velvet Underground? No flipping way! Queen should at least be number 7 or even 8, pure BS survey!

American media has always chosen to ignore Queen. Too sad because most American musicians have been influenced by them.

Just look at all the artists that attended 'The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert' and tell me that Queen wasn't influential.

Seriously, what else is new...FM was considered too gay for the 1980s homophobic Reagan America. But us American Queenies still love them even though we are the red-headed step child of Queen's fans.

I read the full list in the paper last week and Queen were in the list. They were 23rd I think.

I like Jingle's list aside from The Doors and U2. While they are no doubt highyl popular, I've never heard any popular musicians gush about any of there technical abilities. Substitute suggestions include Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers or a number of other southern bands that have tremendously impacted the music scene. Also, what about Van Halen? Black Sabbath? I realize that this is only a top ten but these others deserve mentioning somewhere along the way.

Good to see my dear old Velvets in there. Punk rock would not exist without them. Neither would alternative. And neither would gr---wait a minute.

Without Queen, grunge would not exist either.

Give me the name of a grunge rocker and I will cite you at least one place where (s)he has named Queen as a major influence.

So where are they? And where the hell is Simon and Garfunkel???

So many people were influenced by Velvet Underground, they should definitly be on the list. Queen ... as much as I love them, I don't think they've inspired people. Then again ... I don't think U2 has either.

I don't entirely get Sly & the Family Stone, but I'm not about to object to it.

Dylan influences everyone, everyone else are rubbish, henceforth it is seen that Dylan is the best.

Anyone who argues will get no complaint from me but be warned, I am friends with George Bush and I can get him to personally bomb anywhere I want. He doesn't know what he's bombing, anyway.

Let's look at this list, shall we?

The Beatles - no need to say anything about this one.

The Rolling Stones - Although they are overrated, imo, they were the anti-Beatles. Their music was more bluesy oriented, more into the roots of RnR. Probably the RS gave the okay to other musicians to go towards the blues rock direction like Cream, for example.

U2 - They were probably the biggest band in the 1980's. Their songs were the antithesis of the hair metal plague of the 80's. Sure their core was more new wave mixed with punk. But they had evolved during the years. Another thing, Joshua Tree, excellent album.

The Grateful Dead - The forerunners of the Hippie or Counterculture movement of the late 60's. Although they never had consecutive successful hits (except for 1986's or 87's 'Touch of Grey'), they had a great fan following (infamous 'Deadheads'), and surely inspired bands like Phish.

Velvet Underground - Experimental band, and very underrated. I'm surprised that they are on this list. I'm all for a band that are eclectic, and combine art, and music.

Led Zeppelin - IMO they are overrated. But the majority know that this band were intrical in the beginning of the Heavy Metal/Hard Rock movement, along with Black Sabbath.

Ramones - Three chords, fun songs, and attitude. They were the epitome of punk in NYC back in the mid 70's. Although I think the New York Dolls were much heavier to be Punk than Glam, and they were the first.

Pink Floyd - Great conceptual albums, trips the hell out of me.

Bob Marley and the Wailers - Brought Reggae to the masses. Good positive message, and strong social commentary with great tunes.

Sly and the Family Stone - Aw cmon! They are one of the greatest Funk bands of the 70's. They were fun!

BTW don't you think that some of you might've taken this a bit too seriously? Obviously lists are based on opinions. I think there is no need to be over critical over these unofficial lists.

I think it's fair to say Queen were very influential. Everyone from Guns N Roses to Poison to the Foo Fighters and back. Dylan has been a definite influence on many but over time his influence has dwindled. But acts like The Beatles and Floyd are continuously mentioned today.

Marie, people always take these lists too seriously, I'll never forget the way people were bitching about that Seattle radio list I posted. It's fun to gripe :)
