Anyone who flies the Confederate flag endorses genocide in my opinion. Neil Young got it right with "Southern Man"

I saw LS open for ZZ Top in 1999 and what a darn shame they're still allowed to tour. They're almost as enlightened as Ted Nugent-- another racist.

we gotta stop those godda** f****** NAZIS

Having nothing better to do, I thought I'd type the relevent section of the article out for you...

'Pairing the then silk-pinioned, brutally feminine Queen with the manfully bearded types of Lynyrd Skynard was not an obvious coupling. But Queen played four shows as alternating headliners with Lynyrd Skynard in Germany in 1971. Taylor remembers it well.
"What were they like? They were awful. They were Southern red-necks and they could not believe it when they saw us four caked in make-up and dressed like women. They were outraged, confused and a little frightened, because the four nancy boys were giving them quite a run for their money on-stage. In fact, there were actually people from their record company who would stand in the audience holding up banners that said things like, 'Shit!', 'Queen suck!' Things could be unbelievably petty back then- they paid people to heckle us! God, Lynyrd Skynard. They were arseholes, frankly. When they played that song 'Freebird' it seemed to go on for months. As I remember, they had three lead guitarists. Hmmm (bristling with obvious pride), well, we only seemed to need one. Absolute arseholes. Later on they had that terrible fatal plane crash, didn't they? Shouldn't speak ill of the dead... bollocks to that" '

Voila. Somehow I gather Rog isn't too keen on Lynyrd Skynard...

Well, Roger certainly doesn't seem like your nice man next-door either. Quite lame, if that was really it.

I was already waiting for someone to suggest Skynyrd to be a racist act in this thread. Took surprisingly long to have a comment like that. I'm almost disappointed :P

Meh... 'Freebird' does seem to go on forever, IMO.

Funny thing is, Rog lives next door to God.
Well, a 12th century church, anyway (but in Roger's own words (again, taken from Mojo magazine) "I think God moved out when I moved in.")

Well....Skynyrd did not release their first album until 1972...and did not start touring the big time until after that...so Roger must have been drunk at the time. In fact....on some of the Queen concert sites...I only see one instance of them playing together.

Its ok to not like their music. But to generalize and throw around terms like "genocide, rednecks, racisim, nazis" is just as bad as people who hear Queen and say "fags."

First, it makes you look like a moron for saying it, and secondly, its not true. Neil Young admired Skynyrd for the humor and irony of Sweet Home Alabama (which seems to have gone over the head of some people around here)....and Skynyrd loved his music. It was a joke....get it? You will find no racism in any of Skynyrds music...quite the contrary.

I can see the Skynyrd boys being a little ruffled when they saw Queen in the 70's....a lot of people were. In fact the first image that comes to my mind..is Brian and those puffy shirts. Of course, it doesnt matter...they still rocked....and so did Skynyrd.

Yea...Freebird goes on forever...a lot of people would say the same thing about Bohemian Rhapsody...or many other Queen songs.

They were very different bands....from a different time...a better time...as far as live music is concerned. And they both rocked.

I totally agree with 7Innuendo7, many could say that the confederate flag represents 'Southern Pride', and that's their excuse to still flying it, but more than just 'pride', it also represents racism, segregation & bigotry.

I can't believe that this flag is still being proudly waved in many southern states. To me that's just about as bad as if Germans were still flying the Third Reich flag.

Don't even mention Ted Nuggent to me. That guy deserves to be shot with each and every gun & rifle he owns.

Agreed, Ted Nugent is a twat. And Skynnrd are over-rated hillbilly banjo players.

I await Brandon's wrath :)

I like Lynyrd Skynyrd - easy listening.

Does that mean the Japanese flag represents: genocide, forced marches, torture of prisoners, suicide attacks?

The Japanese flag existed long before Hirohito's empire decided to invade and take over every single nation on the eastern part of Asia.

The confederate flag on the other hand was created during the civil war as a symbol of the states which refused to abolish slavery.

The Texas Chainsaw Massare remake ruined everything about Lynyrd Skynyrd for me. I used to really enjoy SHA (hehe, it's the same acronym as Queen stuff) but I can't hear it anymore without a shudder. Kind of like how Rules of Attraction ruined Living Without You (or whatever the song was called).
