Their was a lot of talk in the mid 80s about Queen spliting up, Could the reason they didnt split up be because they knew it was their last chance to stay together as a band ?

I actually wondered about that, too... would have they split? I have no idea... eventually they would have gone a separate way - already their musical tastes started to differ in the late 80s. I think, though, that they would not have split as drasticaly as Beatles, for example.

Answer to this is simply.. NO.. they would have never split up.. The rest of the band realized it was their fate in life to be in the band with Freddie.. Alone they could not achieve the same success and unity.. they had with the "mothership".. Tight knit unit. Till 86 they felt very tired.. but the spirit kept them going on.. and they would have had some individual break off's from the band.. but they would have returned to it in the end like always before.. Shall FM lived.. they would have realized it was force to renovate, to adopt the challenges of decades to come.. They were in the way of becoming sheer perfect.. and their ideas and music to evolve for the yrs to come..

What I miss mostly from the eighties... is the soul in the music.. there are though some artists.. who keeps contributing their personal feelings to the music they does.. like GM..

That is until Roger is caught plowing Brians missus and Freddie turns John gay.

Freddie was the only one who did not want to tour in '89 ... as presented in Mike Reed's interview ... maybe this was another facade .. who knows?

Well I'll be a pickle. I never knew that. How dare he deprive the world of another tour ... even if he was dying.

The point is apparently that the other guys did not know he was dying ... or at least that was the official story ...

They didn't know at least until the recording sessions for The Miracle, and Freddie told them what he was going through.

Another version of the story is that Freddie didn't actually tell them about his condition until like 1990 or 1991, but all the time they knew that he was seriously ill but didn't ask any questions to respect his privacy.

I've never quite got that. Surely it isn't intruding on your friend's privacy if you suspect they're seriously ill to ask them what's up? It's one thing to ask if they've had any gay sex lately and who with and precise details please, but if you think they're dying?

I'm not sure if John wasn't ready to leave back in 1986... They took 2 years off, started recording new album and it was already apparent that there's sth wrong with Freddie... So he stayed... My theory is that if Freddie wasn't ill, John could be the one saying "I have enough" and retiring... After reading in "Early years" a bit about his wife I think I can understand his confusion- on tour they were kind of Gods, everyone were there especially for them to ensure they have everything they need and want... Then- coming home to wife who is devoted catholic and 5 kids... kind of double life, isn't it...? touring's always like that, doesn't matter the band / artist, but in his case the difference was probably incredibly big... That may be also the reason why he retired now- Brian and Roger were doing shitty things / projects (he called collaboration with Robbie "rubbish"), so the whole thing wasn't worth the difficulty of this double life- public and private...Just a theory...

Freddie had always stated that he felt there would come a time when it would be difficult to continue to run around the stage in the same way as he got older.

i think had he not been ill there would probably still have been one or two more tours then retire to pure studio work, I think it is likely that they would have had slow periods where nothing happened possibly for several years, but I doubt they would have ever 'officially' split up, I think they would have followed 'The Who's' example.

As for endless comments on this site about 'shitty' projects like the musical etc, it appears to come from people who have never seen it, and therefore your opinion is worthless! how can you critic something you haven't seen?

Do you say 'I don't like sushi, I've never tried it, but I don't like it' on second thoughts some of you probably do say that. Anyway the point is to have an opinion about any form of 'art' you HAVE to have seen it, listened to it, tasted it, etc, otherwise you have no opinion worth stating.

Fine if you didn't like the Robbie Williams collaboration assuming you heard it, but at the end of the day this is music, and music is art in which you experiement, sometimes it works to your liking sometimes not, but to brand everything crap because it's not the same as the original version is very narrow minded.

Rant over, just fed up of reading comments from 12yr old bedroom critics.

So a tour for The Miracle and another for Innuendo..which would probably have been a lot different. Also no Made in Heaven.

It's great to speculate.

Live in London for 3 years, seen the musical twice... Now your opinion is worthless...

I was just quoting John who said it was rubbish... Bloody stepford...

Multiply it by two, you'll come bit closer...
Just because your opinion is different than mine, you're assuming I'm basically stupid and my opinion is worthless and I know nothing about music... Nice- taht's what I call a true stepford...
And what exactly makes me a 12year old bedroom critic and doesn't make you the same...?- apparently "more mature" opinion...? Don't make me laugh... I'm a musician myself and saying Robbie Williams and art in one sentence is just not right... In his case the word you're looking for is "product"...
