I remember my first appearance on a Queen forum (the old fan club forum which "mysteriously" crashed due to the "millenium bug" i.e Jacky didn't like the criticism the band were getting about recycling old material and passing off solo work and dodgy collaborations as a "Queen Greatest Hit") was to suggest we boycot Greatest Hits 3. The general concensus (apart from Fatty who thought I was a girl and was hoping for some 'fingers & tops') was that I was a "c**t" and "not a real fan." Both of which are true, of course, but I still think the boycot idea would've worked and we might've had a box set by now if GH3 had flopped because of "fan power." But Queen fans will buy anything with the logo on it (including the mythical QueenTurd) and so there's no incentive to release a box set. Why bother when there's loads of cash to be mined from gullible fans who'll but a Greatest Hits package on 8-track, LP, mini-disk, audio cassette, dvd-a etc.

"So, are you girl or not?"

Isn't that what the Germans said to your Prime Minister in 1941? :)

I have recently got very into dream theater and for a while I was worried I was losing my love for Queen - it didn't last long, and there are 3 fool proof ways to realsing what amzing band Queen are:

1) listen to 'the show must go on' really loud at least tiwce in a row. Listen out for freddies amazing vocals, a classic example of classic John bass, two of the greatest guitar solos ever.....and roger's quite good too

2) Listen to any live version of 'I'm in love with my car', and sing along - it even work if you don't like cars. Just listen out for rogers wonderful voice and brilliant fills. Also freddies great backing vocals and piano.

3) Watch the recently downloadable Hammersmith 75 concert. Look out for the brilliant showmanship (blow up dolls, roses, balloons), rogers two brilliant drum intros, John's bass solo in 'Liar', Freddies vocals in 'White Queen' and Brian guitar solo (go on, admit it, you like them)

.....and rekindle your love

MMM...Girls

Seriously, with respect to an earlier post, the gripe of most who have posted to this topic is not with the music of Queen from 71-92, it is with the questionable collaborations and decisions made AFTER 1992. "Made In Heaven" was a good final album utilizing Freddie's final vocals (well, most of it) but "5ive"? Pepsi?

I can listen to "The Show Must Go On" at full volume all I want (and often do) but that does not ease my discomfort at the attempts of Brian and Roger trying to give the old bones at best a good rattle with their performances as "Queen". I thought "Queen" ended with Freddie's death and I thought it was Brian who gave us that notion. Look at Robert Plant and Jimmy Page. They could have grabbed John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham and attempted to resurrect Led Zeppelin, but they went off on their own and recorded as Page and Plant.

I do not begrudge Brian and Roger for promoting the musical, and I understand the record companies want new compilations now and again, but I am concerned by their performances billed as "Queen". I have to wonder now if those rumors of Brian and Roger teaming with a vocalist (Robbie Williams, George Michael) for a tour were a couple of "trial balloons" floated out to gauge the reaction. Much like John Kerry's balloon about possibly delaying his acceptance of the Democratic nomination to take advantage of a fundraising loophole.

Whether it is right or wrong doesn't matter personnally they can do what they like it will not diminish the memories!

What is still important is that QUEEN is still high profile for fans old and New and worldwide sales of Queen material is still very respectable.

I like most long for some new material keep the faith it will arrive one day!

I post this not to change any opinions, but simply for clarity's sake...it's a COKE commercial that will feature a Queen song, not Pepsi (as so many people are assuming).

Brian and Roger did participate in a Pepsi commercial in Italy with Britney Spears, Beyonce, and Enrique Iglesias. I believe that featured "We Will Rock You".

This is probably the best sentence ever said about this topic. I agree 100%!

Here's my opinion:
I still have respect for Bri's and Roger's work, I think they sort of keep the spirit of Queen alive and I support them 100%.
That doesn't mean that I like everything they do. I saw the Musical 3 times and loved it but I think the Pepsi ad wasn't necessary.

I agree. They call themselves Queen, it's like a brand. But they're certainly not Queen anymore. Queen died with Freddie.

I've always admired The Clash for not having done a reunion tour although they were offered millions. And the former Clash members and even Joe Strummer weren't by far as the surviving Queen members. They do alright but they're not rich. Still they were never up for a reunion, they would never have done it for any money in the world - because they knew that their time was over.
And that's one thing that makes The Clash so special to me.

So, yes, John Deacon did it right and deserves the greatest respect!

lol! What ad is necessary! :)

At least Brian and Roger are still able to do anything. I mean, what if they both wanted to do a show... say... hypothetically... a little tribute to Freddie, and whoever owned the stadium said they couldn't because they wouldn't gain interest with that. I personally do not consider them Queen, but they're carrying that name and there's nothing we can do but go with the flow and hope there's no more stupid advertising stunts *couPEPSIgh*
