I know this album got a lot of flack for being the follow-up to ANATO, but I love it. At the moment, it's my favorite album, but I never hear that much about it. Anybody else love it?

Actually it wasn't ANATO's follow-up, at least not concerning the time those albums were being created. Brian said many times that songs on ANATO and ADATR were created at the same, and they were sorry cause they couldn't release those two albums together. But anyway it's one of my faves too, especially Let Us Cling Together, beautiful song.
Give me a good guitar, and you can say that my hair's a disgrace, oh, just find me an open car - I'll make the speed of light out of this place...

No, I know they were created together, but ADATR was considered a follow-up, at least when it was being reviewed.

The finest Queen album ever made.

Put it up song for song against any other Queen album and Races wins every time.

It has it all.
FLASHMAN STRIKES AGAIN! Paul Rodgers is not the best thing since fried Fred.

I rather enjoyed it as the next one after ANATO. I once read that Queen presented the late Groucho Marx with gold records and tour jackets for both albums. I even saw some pictures in some Marz biographies -- I wonder what happened to them after he died?

That detailed Queen song poll of 30 hardcore fans (see link below in my profile signature) I did a few years ago easily showed aDatR to be the favorite ...

I love very much ADATR, it's such a fine album, but I think that ANATO is however a better album (perhaps it's BoRhap that makes me feel like that). But speaking of ADATR: I adore TYMD, YTMBA and (of course) STL. And GOFLB, though it's not exactly the most representative guitar based song, made me love Brian's guitar, I was actually astonished when I heard how sweet it sounded in there... By the way, it's the second album I bought, after NOTW, on my first highschool day!

A Day At The Races was my first Queen album. (I bought this on 24-12-1976) It was actually the very first album I bought! (I had SHA and ANATO copied on tape, from a friend) ADATR is for me one of Queen's best albums, along with QueenII, SHA, ANATO. Before buying NOTW a year later, I had listened to ADATR twice every evening! When NOTW came out it first was a bit of a disappointment to me, it sounded so different. It took me just a couple of years to understand the genius of that album. (In fact every Queen album - even HS! - has it's genius inside.

Wonderful album, it has such flavor and variety in it. Too bad it was only 10 tracks long!

One of my faves too, quality form all four members , I think it's about the only Queen album to have consistantly good songs throughout.

> Brian said many times that songs on ANATO and ADATR were created at the same

Actually he said it just once, and he said that they were created in the same stage of their development. That doesn`t mean the same month or same year or same recording sessions. It just means that they were in the same point of their evolution in both albums. Post Sheer Heart Attack, pre News.
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.
